found where oil leaking.... how bad is this???

hey everyone.... i finally found out where the oil is leaking from..... first is the oil injection lines, they are literally cracked in half under that protective sleeve.... next is a tube that comes off the l/f part of the block (top of it)..... this leaks like crazy...... almost a quart a day!!!!! my whole driver side of the motor is covered in oil.... first off... what is that tube for??? turbo?? next, will new brass rings fix it?? how bad is it to drive w/ cracked oil injection lines???
also, i noticed that the exhaust backpressure hose (or whatever its called) is missing, and there is a big hole open on the side of my block.... is this bad, or can it stay that way??? thanks |

cracked oil injector lines are likely to fuck you up quick... i'd premix at this time...
are you talkin about the oil cooler line? |
The port/hole on the back side of the block connects the cat converter to the acv. Its supposed to push 02 to feed the cat converter its catalyst. On S5 engines there are no exhaust backpressure lines.
I would either go premix or get SS oil inject lines. |
wait... just noticed... there's gotta be something REALLY fucked up there... those SS OMP lines DONT JUST BREAK...

Just pull them out, block off the OMP and run premix. |
Stock OMP lines are brittle plastic. Aftermarket stainless braided lines are available on ebay.

Just buy some new oil injector lines.
You live in Calif and need to pass emissions. So get/buy a line/fitting to go to the catalytic converter. It's for the Split Air, so to speak. The oil line/fitting on the left side near the cas is for the turbo feed. That makes one wonder. You have a na made into a turbo?? So what happen here. Did you drill and tap a hole in the housing or install a turbo housing/plate?? |

^^ I never said they were neccessary. I concur though, my omp lines didn't break until I tried to remove them. i said Eff-it when I realised how expensive they were, and have gone premix since that day.
But, if I were to buy new lines, they would be SS. |

But I agree totally; running premix is a whole lot easier. I premix and have the oil injection system, but that is just because I want to be extra safe with my brand new engine. -Andrew |
Maybe I should have said stock 15+ year old OMP lines are pretty brittle and can crack if you're not careful. I'm sure new oem OMP lines would last for the rest of the life of the car.

A- the SS braided ones are nice and shiney but that just one of the features. B- you will never have to replace them ever C- why not? if you going to be replacing them why not get ones that your going to know will last. sure they might an extra 40$ , but you never have the burden on you mind that the used omp lines that you bought might someday break while you still owing your car. D- premix is good (deffending all you premix guys) HOWEVER. premix is typeically good if you either know what your doing. like to work on cars alot. have mods to high hell and beond, or like to get messy at the gas station figureing out the right ratio of oilto gas. so if you dont want to ever have to worry about your oil lines going bad and blowing up your engine? i would suggest the ss braied ones that are usually on ebay. you can find them all over the place steven |

Try tightening that banjo bolt and/or use new copper crush washers.
