Found Leak

Well,

Looking around on the car everything seemed perfect on it which it was but my low coolant light came on last night so I had to park the car and get the gf to pick me up some coolant because I was bone dry.

The whole time I'm thinking, great this will be just like my first gen, blown coolant seal I'm not going through that again...however I said I'll top it off and look at it in the morning.

Start it up, sure enough, found a leak...

Its one of your heater hoses, notorious for leaking.

Tech_Greek 07-28-05 12:35 PM

Can anyone tell me the length that I need to replace it with? I can get it for free at autozone, also the diamenter of it...

Tech_Greek 07-28-05 12:39 PM

Screw it ill just go up to the zone and grab three or four hoses haha they love me anyways, I'm a big 'balla' there...

xtremeskier97 07-28-05 01:36 PM

Can I say it yet Tech_Greek?!

can i...huh huh...can i?!!

TOLD YA SO! :p:

xtremeskier97 07-28-05 01:58 PM

hahaha

Did ya get it fixed?

AcidShock 07-28-05 01:58 PM

NAPA carries almost a direct replacement for that hose. It is prebent and everything. It is in their heater/radiator hose catalog.

Tech_Greek 07-28-05 02:04 PM

I bought some hose from autozone, it was 2 feet long ($3?) and I think it's 5/8ths

xtremeskier97 07-28-05 02:15 PM

Bought?! I thought you had the "hookup"!?! :p:

anywho..i cant remember where i got mine when i had to replace it 3 times....but it was prebent also.

ratboy 07-28-05 02:22 PM

My heater hose blew in the same spot a month ago. Cheap easy fix...

Tech_Greek 07-28-05 09:06 PM

Alright, apparently the leak has gotten worse, I topped off the rad & resv and the low coolant buzzer went off tonight again...total milage before the buzzer went off, 23 miles.

I don't have a NAPA locally that I know about locally...does oreillys happen to have it or advance auto/auto zone?

Really in a bind because I can't afford to go through a bottle of coolant every two or three days because I've got a leak and I've got almost 0 dollars...

I'll have to end up sawing off the current hose because I tried to take the current off today to test to see that the hose that I bought and it wouldnt budgeafter the clamp was off.

I had the same problem a couple months ago. I could not find the exact hose anywhere..................so...................... .My solution is as follows. not an exact fit but works great, no more leaky leaky!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Get the following hose,

Gates #21309

This is a short, pre-formed hose that will fit on the heater core at the firewall. This hose will be pointing in the exact direction of the original.

Next get a straight barbed fitting and about 2 feet of the same size hose as the pre-formed. Join the cut to length hose to the pre-formed with the barbed fitting and a couple of hose clamps. You will know be able to loop the end down and around to the fitting on the block, right under the oil filter.

BE SURE TO COVER THE END OF THE HOSE THAT IS UNDER THE OIL FILTER WITH RTV SILICONE SEALANT SO OIL WON`T KILL YOUR NEW HOSE.

This worked perfect for me and I was stranded on the road. I had to hit several parts houses before I was able to match up my old hose to something that would work. I`m glad I kept the sticker off the hose couse now I`m able to help you get just what you need without having to chase all over town.

Good Luck,
Scott :bigthumb:

By the way, Although I live in Michigan now, I`m from Kilgore TX originally.

Tech_Greek 07-28-05 09:45 PM

Well, here's the thing, Mazdatrix sells a preformed hose fir $35 plus 2 day shipping which I have a feeling would be like $50 total.

I'd like to get it fixed tomorrow if possiblebut i cant afford to run across town now unless I know somethings going to work.

But let me get this straight, buy two hoses, stick one end off the engine, put a barb on the other side attach another hose to the other end of the barb to the firewall?

Thanks

Get on AIM.

bingoboy 07-28-05 11:27 PM

friend replaced with some prebent hose and a joiner piece with hoseclamps. forget the $30 oem hose....what a rip off.

Tech_Greek 07-29-05 01:04 AM

I'll just try the dealership and see if they have one and if they dont ill try the molded hoses...

RETed 07-29-05 06:50 AM

The problem is...
...the oil dripping down from the oil filter pedestal cause of bad o-rings.

Stop driving the car!
Order that shit from Mazdatrix and order the two o-rings for the oil filter pedestal.

FIX THE O-RINGS FIRST!

Then replace the hose.

Your new hose will do the same thing if you dont get that oil leak fixed.
