Found a 90 13b motor at junkyard?

I found an unmolested 1990 rx7 gxl in a foreign junkyard just North of Los Angeles. The car hasnt been touched yet. Just for info, the tail lights are cracked, and the passenger side mirror is broken. Anyways my question is should I buy the motor since it has the better lighter rotors? The engine has 150k miles on it and I assume it was running recently because the car was crashed. Car looks like it was kept in good condition. If I strip off all of the intake, wiring, sensors ect. and just buy the bare block, I can get it for $109.00 out the door. Should I pick this up. I have never owned a 2nd gen but just thinking towards the future, get this motor and maybe drop it into a repu or something, or use the rotors on another n/a motor.

thanks for the help

Where is the junkyard?

I'm not needing a motor, but I need some odd and end part from a S5. I assume it isn't a pic a part place.

PM me if you want to keep it low key info.

Thanks.

100 bucks for a short block is a pretty decent deal. the counter weights and flywheel will be needed also so you really do want the whole thing. Nice find!

Look for the Pic a Parts wrecking yards..

There are several "chains" besides that one. Ecology, U Pic you Save are other pick a part wrecking yard chains.

I know there is one in San Fernando. Another you might try is near Irwindale. There are a number out in Riverside and San Berdo areas.

But, you mostly see 1st Gen's and S4's. Rarely S5's, and never have I seen a 3rd Gen. However, I've seen older Miata's from time to time.

I would like to get crazy but right now I am feeling too Lazy! Hey that rhymes! Any way's thanks for the reply's guys. Here are the local pick your own parts type yards that I know of.

There is Ecology Auto Wrecking in Santa Fe Springs.

There is an Ecology in Willmington and I believe a Pick a Part in Willmington.

There is a Pick a Part near Irwindale. Take the Live Oak Exit off of the 605 freeway and head west.

There is a Pick a Part in the Sunland area off of the 5 freeway, and a few other pull your own parts type yards in the same area.

There Is a Pick a Part off of beach blvd in buena park or stanton.

From my experiance ecology auto wrecking's prices are better than pick a part. The pick a part in Buena Park really tries to rape you depending on the part. They wanted to charge me 40 bucks for an air flow meter ( sounded like too much for a junk yard).

These yards usually have a few series 4's, and a few first gen's. I have yet to come across a turbo2 and have only seen one series 5. Last week I found a first gen with a street ported 13b in it at the yard off of live oak. The rotor housings were even polished! I didn't buy the motor though as it looked like a garage job and I don't know the condition of the motor. They exaust and carb of this motor were gone. Seeing that it had the bottom half of a gslse manifold with the secondary actuators missing and the injector holes plugged, I am willing to bet that there was a dellorto carbie on there, and a racing beat header! It is not uncommon to come across racing beat headers, and prima flow muff's on 1st gens in the junk yards. Usually once a month these yards will have 50% off! They usually don't give you the flyer till your walking out the exit though. Sometimes you can check there websites and it will tell you when the half off days are.

Happy Hunting Guys!
