Fog light installation
 

I just purchased some S5 foglights. Does anyone have a write up on how to install these bad boys. They did not come with any switches or harness.

lol i bought a good set for $50 last year and still haven't put them on cause im too lazy and dont know how to put them without taking the front bumper off cause again im lazy lmao

The wiring should already be in place.
You DO have to remove the front bumper, from there it's pretty obvious how they go in.

Personally, I don't think the stock fog lamps are worth the effort.

I still havent put them on. I would love it if someone could show me or explain to me how to install them because I do not have any wiring nor electronic background. Thanks.

As I said before...the wiring is already in place (probably taped to the harness).
You need to add the relay (goes in the front nose by the other relays) and the switch (in the center console, next to the security light).
If your harness hasn't been mangled, everything you need is there...it's plug-n-play.
Fogs were a S5 option only, if you have a S4, all bets are off.
If you have a S4, don't even bother with the factory lamps, they're not worth the effort.

Remove the front bumper cover and take out the brake duct, replace with the duct/lamps you bought.

I have an S4 with an S5 body conversion. I would like to have the stock s5 fogs on mine. Thanks though I guess I have to do it another way.

I believe since it's s4 non of the wires are there. So you need a fog light switch and the complete harness it will be a pain to install. Look in the faq section and download the s5 wire diagram to help you. Buying aftermarket will be alot easier as far as wires go. Hopefully you have the brackets. Too. And good luck.

do you have the s5 bumper? Didn't see it in your thread. It's kinda required for the fog lights.

so i hooked up my fogs today: s5 fogs, oem switch and a new relay!!! but the main lights only turn on in the down position, im guessing i need to put a fuse for the fogs (bulbs are still good, tested them already)

Where is the fuse for the fogs located??? interior fuse box but whitch one and how many amps???

go to a parts store and where they sell the fog lights there should be a complete foglight wirig kit, just use that to run to your fogs... and for mounting just hold your brackets where they need to be mounted and mark with a silver perm. marker( easy to see on the dark bumper support) then take your bumper off and make sure both sides are lined up the same, then drill holes in the s4 bumper support and get some nuts, bolts, and washers then just bolt the brackets and fogs up and re install the bumper..

it is just as easy to use the s5 fogs as it would be to buy aftermarket ones, you still have to run your own harness and switch and you still have to drill and line up your mounting brackets.. the only real differances are that you have to remove bumper for s5 fogs(if you want the aftermarkets to look right you would also remove the bumper to mount the brackets) and your going to go from a oem lamp to a aftermarket lower quality lamp...



Here is the kit they sell at O'Reilly Auto Parts( i dont know if you have that store there but Auto Zone and Advance Auto Parts should also have it and possibly Wal*Mart)

This is a diagram i made up real fast that i think is the wiring the kit uses, if not i can pretty much tell you exactly how to wire it, if you were located in South Carolina, i would help you install them

it's a bitch if you have an s4 with s5 bumper, cause as they said above, you lack all the wiring. i got a free pair of s5 fogs and i just spliced it into the turn signal/parking light wiring. they work when i turn on parking lights and full lights. i'll upload a pic if i can find my camera

You'll have to find a matching plug for the lamp sockets too.
I would argue that a set of Hellas are in fact, nicer than the stock S5 lamps anyway and you have better selection of bulbs as well.

i installed my s5 fogs on my s4 in about an hour total.. as far as plugs go if you dont have the pigtail with the fogs then just drill a hole use a h1 bulb and just crimp a female conector to your wiring for the light and then ground to the bolt that is beside the bulb.... maybe its just me, but it was a really easy job to do..prob one of the simplest tasks i have done with a car.

if you want the wiring to be really simple then all you have to do is tap into the headlight low beam lights, the fogs would be on while riding around but when you turn your high beams on they would turn off, kinda like my 07 lexus does. but its all up to you if you want to just go aftermarket or do the s5's. im just saying from experience that three holes a side on the bumper support and a little wiring isnt difficult.

Hey guys i did not want to start a new thread and I'm having a problem, I installed HID fogs on my 89 s5 and they worked fine in the garage then when bolted all up and I parked the car neither of them worked which leads me to believe it is a fuse. any help would be GREATLY appreciated :nod:

Does anybody know how to bolt the fog light frame to the frame of the car? I was hoping the bolt holes would line up but they didn't. I realize that I could drill a hole and run a bolt but I want it bolted like the S5 car.

I'm trying to the S5 foglights on my 1989 GTU. Can someone tell me what harness this is for? My fog lights won't turn on.

It's just a bit hard to tell exactly how many wires are in the plug and what the wire colors are. The fog light takes voltage from the Red/Black wire and passes it on to the Red/White wire.

This R/W wire runs to the fog light relay at the front of the car. The fog light 15 amp fuse powers the Red/Yellow wire at the relay. So, you need to make sure the relay has constant voltage on the R/Y wire and that the R/W wire has power w/the switch activated (lights need to be on for the R/W wire to have voltage).

If the above checks out then the Red/Black wire at the relay would then have power which runs to the fog lights to turn them on.

Sorry. Here are some more photos. Hope this helps. Is the relay and fuse already there and it's plug and play or do I have to get those two items? So far I only have the switch and fog lights.

Forget the pics. Just look at the plug and tell us what the wires are colored. If the wires to the relay are Black, R/Y, R/W and R/B then that's the fog light relay plug. Which switch do you have? Is it the factory item or an item you supplied yourself? And is the plug pictured disconnected from the relay for pic taking purposes or do you just not have the relay.

Yes the wires are correct however there was no relay when I got the car. I have the factory switch. I just picked up one of these relay the other day. It plugs right into the harness however still no lights even with the headlights on. Maybe bad switch?

Did you check for voltage on the two wires that were mentioned previously. If not, then now's a good time as any.

I figured it out lol it was silly. I forgot to put a fuse. It works now. Thanks for the help!
