Flywheel resurfacing, what are you paying?

Hey guys, I did some searching and couldn't come up with a general consensus on a fair price for a fylwheel resurfacing job. I just wanted to see how much you guys are paying.
Please post what type of flywheel it was- Stock NA or TII, Aftermarket w/Material it's made of.

I got two quotes yesterday fior my Stock 91' TII flywheel. One was $80, the other was $50.

$50 seems fair enough to me. I'm going to be dropping it off at that machine shop today.

Before any of you ask why I didn't go aftermarket LW , I'm planning on selling the car next spring/summer and I just took a twin disc out of it.

o_O NAPA always quotes me $35 to resurface a flywheel.. Always been NA, but that shouldn't make a difference I don't think? [Once was S4 once S5]

Who gave you those quotes?

napa told me they couldnt resurface mine so i just took it to work and did it myself when i got some time

I told my tii flywheel to a local place that makes driveline components for trucks. $25 and two cigarettes later I was on my way. When I walked in with it the guy actually knew it was out of an RX7.

a shop did mine for 40 bux.

I called at least 30 shops around New York City within all 5 boros b4 I gave up. most of them never even heard of resurfacing flywheel (wtf?) some would do it for at least 100 bux and they all admit that they don't do it, they just send it to some machine shop (which I have no idea where to find them in NYC) I was like f outa here.

Finally found a place in Long Island, 40 bux. 1 hr later. shine like new.

$45 is about average price for most shops, anything less and you might be getting a shitty job.

Be sure this is done properly... AGreen knows about this.

He drew up a diagram, but I can't seem to find it in a search.

the dirty spot towards the outside ring where the dowels are needs to be machined also to step down. any competent shop should realize this.

I think I paid around $30 for my S5 n/a flywheel.

Thanks for the input guys!
I just dropped it off, they said it'll be ready tomorrow afternoon. Also thanks for the link Dwb, I'll make sure they machined the whole surface. The machine shop I dropped it off at has been around a very long time, so I hope they do it right.

at the local machine shop $35 for a resurface and about $75 if you get it balanced

beefhole 10-25-11 06:02 PM

Bah! I got mine done 2+ years ago. The guy charged me $80. It was local though and I couldn't find anyone else remotely close by. ...and I was within 5 minutes of 10 machine shops!

But $80 is barely one iota of what I've spent on this godforsaken car!
