the flywheel hates me

OKAY,

SO, basically my flywheel will not come off AT ALL. i got a flywheel puller but the bolts that i screwed down into the flywhel popped out (like totally stripping the thread on the bolt and flying out) so is there something that i can do like is there a super special puller that i need? because at this rate NOTHING will get that flywheel off.

I placed a pry bar inbetween the engine and flywheel. Then with a hammer, tapped the opposite side of the flywheel on the outer edges. Popped off like a charm.

Keep the flywheel nut loosely on though. You don't want that flywheel falling on your foot. ;)

ok i tried that, i placed a big pry bar inbetween the housing and flywheel pryed like a mad man, i beat the crap out of it and it still wont budege. even with the flywheel puller on it it doesnt work i also put heat to the flywheel. AND its still wont come off. is it at all possible that the engine could have overheated and the Eshaft fused itself to the flywheel?

hey not trying to sound like an ass or anything, but you took off the flywheel nut right?

THAT WAS A RUDE REMARK! (hee, hee, chuckle, chuckle}

Taking a torch to it is a good idea. It was probably put on with locktite and some got b/t the flywheel and E-shaft.

I had to take a block of wood and hit it with a 20lb hammer several times to get a flywheel off. Wood block b/t the hammer and outer rim of the flywheel. Turn the flywheel nintey degrees and hit again and on and on and on until it gives up and falls off.....on your foot.

Be sure to use a touch of locktite when reinstalling the flywheel. Use it on the threads.

ok ... well i wasent planing on keeping mine so i hit it with a mallet till it cam off then it flew off and sliced my drop light cord in half opps lol

You know what, I just took a flywheel off with a regular hammer the other day.
I normally use a mini sledge (2 to 3 lbs.), but we never had one handy.
So I grabbed the regular hammer and wailed at it...twice.
It popped free on the second try.

Remember, loosen the 54mm flywheel nut but DON'T REMOVE IT.
Leave it threaded on to keep the flywheel from falling off.
This might be easier on turbo flywheels, but aim for the metal area that does NOT mate with the clutch disc and AWAY from the ring gear.
Denting the clutch disc mating surface is BAD. :(
Wacking the ring gear and chipping the teeth is BAD. :(
Wail at it as hard as you can!
Everytime I remove the flywheel this way, it takes me a maximum of three whacks to get it off.
I always bet with friends I can do it in 3 tries - I always win. :D

Oh, and if you have sensitive ears, wear some ear protection.
It's LOUD when you whack it that hard with a hammer.
Sorta like sitting inside a gigantic church bell when you ring it!

You need to wail at it like you want to kill it.
Are you sure you're swinging hard enough?
Dude, don't hold back - swing as hard as you can!
