flyweel woes..

ok guys, how hard can I hit the nut on the shaft without hurting anything in the motor?
I got the nut loose byt Ill be danged if I can get the flywheel off.
I will use a sledge if needed
just dont want to break anything.

how hard?

The way I always get it loose is to use a gear puller to put some tension on the flywheel and then just start whanging away all the way around with a 3 lb deadblow. As long as your hitting the face of the flywheel and not the sides you shouldn't be damaging the e shaft. Worst case is you might trash your rear seal and need to replace it. Or crack your flywheel. Good luck.

thanks, I will go at it again tomorrow and see if I am lucky or not

Hit the NUT? Why, if it is already loose??? By hitting the nut, you run the risk of eccentric shaft damage. I don't want to have to fix that shit, so don't do it. :nono:

To get the flywheel off AFTER THE NUT IS LOOSE, take a good size hammer, a 4lb or more is preferable. Note on the flywheel there is the ring gear (you don't want to hit it), the friction surface itself (you don't want to hit it), the 6 holes for the PP bolts (you dont want to hit them) and the 3 alignment studs (you don't want to hit them). Pick a blank area between all these things, take aim, and swing HARD one good time. Check to see if the flywheel is loose yet. If not, locate a blank area across the flywheel from where you hit, take aim, and swing again. Check. repeat as necessary. Usually comes off on try 2 or 3...this is a 1 minute job.

I knew Kevin would come through ;)

Thanks Kevin, got it off! I guess we all have to learn sometime.
