Flush headlights
 

So when I bought my car it had the flush headlights from evo-r.net and I liked them at the time. But more and more I want to go back to the pop up headlights as they look better. The only issue is the previous own of my car cut up the wires and rewired the new headlights in. I'm not entirely sure what needs to be done to go back to the stock lights, or if it's even possible. Any help would be great.

Some of it depends on the year of the car as some early S4's had an external relay for the pop up motor while later models had an internal relay.

It's an 88.

There should then be 4 wires running to each retractor motor. Black is the ground. White/Green powers the retractor relay via the 30 amp retractor fuse in the engine fuse box. This leaves 2 wires to each motor. Red/Yellow causes the headlight to stay in the closed position when it has voltage. Red/Blue causes the headlight to power up when it has voltage to it. Both of these wires are powered by the 30 amp head fuse (again, found in the engine fuse box).

So if these wires are gone then I'd have to run new wires correct? The original wires are gone and have been replaced with red wires he used to wire the new headlights.

The new wires are probably just to turn the headlights on (high beam or low beam). If that's the case then you need the ground wire, the G/W wire coming from the retractor fuse, and the other two wires which come from the headlight switch and pass through connector FC-02 which should be located below the dash and near the interior fuse box/kick panel area.

So we're talking about a potential good amount of wire work. I've never done any of that before, could be a nice experience.

It's simpler than you think.

Ah well I'll go in to it with that mentality. I assume having a wiring diagram would be good to have.

For what it's worth,when I did my RE-A front end I just took out the motors and then used the Headlight wiring to go to the headlights.(basically,But I used the connections at the light sockets)
Most likely you may find that the connectors for the retractor motors will still be there.That is if the guy was just taking parts off and plopping on the flush style light assemblies

I'll have to get in there and really take a look to see if the connectors are still there. I'm hope that they are to make things easier on me. But if not I'll probably have to go to a junkyard and acquire the pieces I'm missing.
