flooding problems
 

when i go to crank my 91 convertable if you hit the gas by accident the car floods so badly that you will almost run the battery dead trying to crank it before it will start my question is what causes this and how can i solve the problem

since its a 91 I think you can hold down the pedal (to the floor) and turn it over.. 89-91's have a anti flooding feature. I figure its the same on conv's

Someone correct me if im wrong

OK...I came across an 88 convertible about a year ago. The first month was a nightmare; stalled it/flooded it at stop signs and during start up about a good six times. I called the previous original owner and asked him if he new what the issue was. He explained to me that the engineers who designed the rotary engine were never able to rectify the problem. It just floods by default when the gas pedal is depressed before start up, when the engine is shut down before it has sufficiently warmed up, at times when the clutch is dumped and when the engine is shut down after long hours of operation. The RX8 stalls as well...!!!

There is a quick and easy method to purging the combustion chamber of fuel though:

After flooding out, pop the hood and pull the fuse to electronic fuel ingition system. Jump back into car, place into neutral, apply ebrake, depress clutch and gas pedals to floor and turn over for 15 secs. (If car is really flooded, it may require that you turn the car over twice before replacing fuse) Jump back out and replace fuse. Jump back into car and depress BOTH the clutch AND gas pedals to floor board at the same time. Ensure that your car is in neutral...!!! The car should start up slowly but surely. Some people tend to only depress the clutch upon restart but you will find that it takes a major toll on your starter and battery...hope that helps shipmate...
