flooding problem

I have an 87 Mazda RX-7 GXL n it keeps on flooding only in the morning when i start it what are common problems that can cause this... it isn't the plugs because those are new

Leaky injectors are Common problem to flooding.Best to have them removed/cleaned replaced. And Plugs don't have anything to do with the car FLOODING(Mechanically wise).Plugs are electrical.Flooding is Fuel.

micah 02-14-07 12:43 AM

Well. if he wasn't getting a good spark.... it wouldn't burn.... and it would flood. :)

bshumate2003@yahoo.com 02-14-07 01:15 PM

uhhh yea because the spark is what burns the fuel ... if theirs nuthin there to burn the fuel what happens??? the injectors keep giving gas n theirs no spark so it doesn't get burned n it floods

Does this mean the rest of the day when the engine is already warmed up, it starts each time??????

By being flooded in the morning, does this mean it's just reallllll hard to start but finally starts up???????????????

A waterthermo sensor with a broken wire will give the above symptoms. Its input to the ECU is on the GREEN/WHITE wire in the middle plug of the ECU. If you backprobe it in the morining it should read above 1vdc and if its a pretty cool morning it'll be above 2vdc. Fully warmed up it'll read about a half volt.

A lack of this signal makes the ECU default to a temp of 176 F which means the amount of fuel injected will be SMALL vs if the waterthermo input was good on a cold morning, whereupon it'll inject LARGE amounts of fuel (making it start better with a cold engine).

no it's not hard to start at all it starts right up perfectly but then it's starts acting all shaky and the exaust spits out blue smoke alotta smoke prolly oil ?? but it sounds like a motor boat .... now i don't even clean out my spark plugs and once the rpm drops down to 1000k to 750k it runs amazingly excellent :dunno:

bmx198706 02-19-07 11:35 PM

constantly flooding?

i just bought this rx7 and it floods every single time u try to start it ... wat am i doing wrong? could it have any thing to do with it have a broken y-pipe or old spark plugs and wires?

Sgt. Pepper 02-19-07 11:47 PM

Y-pipe? Probably not.
Spark plugs and wires, yes. Your injectors may be leaking a little and it's not sparking properly during cranking causing it to flood. Replace them both and see what happens.

Supposing your in the right section...and you do what ^^^ says, get a compression test ASAP.

Go48 02-20-07 07:22 AM

Yeah, compression test before you do anything else. If the compression is sub-par, you will be wasting money doing parts replacement.

bmx198706 02-20-07 07:43 AM

but the motor was rebuild not to long ago i believe

dothacker 02-20-07 07:49 AM

adjust your tps. this has been covered. search.

That don't mean a thing. I suppose the guy who sold you the car told you this. Did you see any paperwork on who rebuilt it? It could have been Rotary Resurrection, or it could have been Zeke his beighbor with the fourth grade education. Or he could have been telling you a story.

Get a compression test done first thing before you do anything else.

make sure u got the firing order right too the fag that i bought my car from wasn't aware of the leading and trailing pattern

CyberPitz 02-20-07 02:48 PM

I have hte same problem, but I'm pretty sure it's my injectors :(

Rotarbeast 02-20-07 02:53 PM

typical symptom of an atkins rebuild.

ncgtu 01-03-08 07:54 PM

I had a bad cold start flooding problem. Saw a suggestion from HAILERS in another thread to replace the water thermosensor. It worked. $15 and 30 minutes. Thanks HAILERS.
