Flooding after having injectors cleaned!
 
Here's the story

1- car has never flooded in the two years I've owned it

2- took the intake off

3- removed injectors, but forgot to release the pressure in the system so gas went everywhere

4- sent the injectors to r.c. engineering to be cleaned.

5- installed the injectors with new o-rings and gromets

6- put the intake back together

7- tried to start car, and it just turned with a higher than normal pitch

8- pulled the plugs and they were soaked with gas

9- pulled the EGI and turned it over for like 10 seconds, repeated this 4 times

10- got the car to start for like 5 seconds, then it dies.

11- pulled the plugs out again and they were covered with gas

Why the hell would my car start flooding only after I got the injectors cleaned. If I knew I was gonna get into this mess, I would never have had them cleaned.

After searching through old posts for the past two hours, I've found out that my problem could reside in numerous things. I'm debating on removing the upper intake and switching my injectors, and checking all of the lines. I can't believe that one of my injectors would leak after they were cleaned, when none of them leaked before there were cleaned. I guess it is possible that when I removed the injectors some of the gas that spewed out could of got into the motor and flooded it; and when I first attempted to start it I soaked the plugs. After I pulled out the plugs and noticed they weak soaked with gas, I just wiped them off on my shirt and stuck them back in. So if they were not totaly dry, they would not work right? I'm also a lil woried about turning the motor over any more, due to the lack of oil lubrication. Exactly how long can a motor turn without oil before the problems start? My lil winter project is turning into a disaster.

Just shoot some oil in there through the sparkplug holes...not too much tough (it will foul the plugs). People will think this is crazy....Once after flooding my car VERY badly after reassembling the intake I actually had to take a vac./blower and blow air through the spark plug holes to get it dry out! You should probably get new plugs and crank the engine for about 30 sec. with the EGI fuse removed. Reinstall the fuse and it will probably start.

I'll give it a shot. Thanks. If I get it started, do you think this problem will continue in the future? I don't want to just get it started; I want it to never flood. I'm hoping this is happening just because I messed with the intake, and will go away once the plugs and motor are dried up.

Recently I sent my injectors out to RC to get cleaned too. I haven't installed them yet, but will soon.

Mine came back with o-rings, top grommet, but no bottom grommet. Did yours come back from RC with lower grommets? I called them up and Carol assured me that they do not ship with both grommets and that I can purchase those somewhere else in kits that have both grommets and o-rings. I asked, well why replace just one grommet and o-ring? It seems to me it should be all or nothing.

One piece I'm waiting for are lower grommets from Mazdatrix.

Your sudden problem of flooding is strange. Especially if you can get it to run for 5 seconds and then it dies. If it's only flooding, I wouldn't think it would die after 5 seconds. Are you positive you have all vaccum lines and electrical connections correct?

I believe I have all the connections made properaly. I replaced almost all of the vacuum lines; I replaced all of the fuel lines; and I replaced all of the coolant lines. I guess there could be a vacuum leak somewhere, maybe one of the gaskets didn't seal to good. I might just have to tear it down again and see what's doin. :sad

It may be a big leak from the injector seal. I had a problem with the seal to intake to injector. It fell out while putting it back together. This was a big leak and hard to find. Get out the brake cleaner (flammable) and spray around the injectors and see if the idle smooths out. If you get it to idle, or have someone hold the rpm at 1500 or so. Then spray everywhere there could be a leak. And buy two big cans of brake cleaner. One may not be enough, just becarefull around the exhaust area.

Nope, only the top gromets I believe. I had ordered all new injector parts from mazdatrix beforehand but I just used the parts R.C. gave me. Maybe there parts are not spec parts for my car....

Forget leaks, those injectors have gone bad. They might be stock and not closing at all. That is why the car is flooding. If they were working before you sent them then call them up and ask what the fuck they did to them. Sounds like it is their fault. try using someone else's injectors to see if they work.

don't bring out the shot gun yet!! i would check and see if u forgot to plug in a vacume hose or afm connector. if every thing checks out ok take off the upper manifold and unbolt the rail. tie wrap the injectors to the rail and point the outlet of the injectors into a cup or sumthin (into the air is ok to, not safe though) have a frind craank the car and see if the injectors are atomizeing the fuel in short pulses and not dripping out fuel and not one long continious spray. make sure you dont spray urself in the face. if you do immediately light up a cigarrete(just kidding) i think this way will help so u don't have to keep taking the manifold off and on alot. hope this helps and wasn't too confuseing. (my first guess would be the afm for some reason. when my friend did something to his car he set the afm on the floor and someone tripped on it and broke it. a very light kik could break that thing. and yes it did cause his car to flood)

Ok - I would try this first.......take out your bottom plugs....i can't remember if they're leading or trailing.....then get a friend to hold two bottles (coke, water...whatever just make sure they're empty) over the plug holes and crank the engine with your foot on the gas for a couple seconds........this should spit a lot of fuel out if it is flooded....oh and make sure your egi fuse is pulled out........then clean your plugs and reinstall them......then put your egi fuse back in and start the engine...if it is still slightly flooded...ie.starting for a second or two then dying....pull the egi fuse and try again with you foot on the gas for a full five seconds.....then replace the fuse and try agin....and if all this still doesn't work then you're fucked and i can't help you...sorry

if it is starting for a few seconds and dying you should also have a look at your afm connection...

I did the fuel injector cleaning with RC engineering too..Because my car was flooding every damn time I tried to start it.
Well...even with the professional cleaning it didnt help at all. So i installed the fuel cut off switch but it didnt work as well as i thought it would.

The weird thing is that when I first crank the engine in the morning it start like it should be. But it dies in 2~3 sec. After that, the whole choking,and flooding shit starts. I still dont know why it starts up fine but it dies afterwards.

I hope someone could come with a bright idea to fix this crap.
