fixin' to drop in an engine, got questions.

i got a motor today and it has been sitting for about six months, its making sound when i turn it over like it has compression and its a bitch to spin when it hits compression. do i need to put anything in the housings to lubricate them just incase.
also, i was wondering about vacumn lines, i want to change them but what sizes do i need and how much.
if there is any tips or hints you can give me, i would appreciate it. this is my first motor swap. im 900 dollars shoter than i was on friday but i got an 88 gxl and a motor that is supposably good.
any cheap power upgrades would be good also.
i got a hell of a deal on the car and will post pics if i can.
it came with a borla exhaust and the adapter for the air filter. i even drove it home. thanx

If it's not cranking very well, chances are it's not grounded very well. Run some grounds from the chassis/firewall/battery to the engine block and try again.

its not in the car, im putting it in through the course of this week. also can i remove the air pump without it affecting my power.

Kind of. No air pump means you have to rid the cats. An aftermarket high flow cat should give enough backpressure to still open the ports. Ive heard the stock cats will clog if used with no air pump. Throw a little MMO or 2 stroke oil into each side of the rotor faces. Turn it over every day until you install it.

I would just put it in first, and go from there. I have swapped 4 engines, and everytime there were always loose ends that kept it from cranking the first try. The one time I tried interchanging before I put the motor in, it was an engine I got off E-Bay that was blown, and I was so pissed having to pull it back out and take everything back off. Rotaries are a pain, especially the first time...I would just take my time putting it in, then go back and swap out whatever...Good Luck
