fixed rear end squeak (the annoying one)
 

I'm sure many of you know the squeak, I'm talking about, you can't quite tell where it's comming from when your driving, but it sounds like something loose in your suspension or frame whenever you go over a bump. A few people on this forum said it was the rear hatch squeaking because it was loose, and it was, where it latches.

To fix it, I took off the little platic covers over the 2 rear latches, 2 screw apiece. Took off the latch mechanisim, 2 bolts apiece, plus you have to unhook them from the hatch popping rod, it's a snap shut plastic connector, I pried it open with a screw driver, and then just follow the one wire left untill you find a connector. Took them outside, and sprayed them with WD-40 type penatrating spray, used quite a bit of the stuff, to get off all the built up grime and old grease, and dirt and 15 years of who knows what. Dried em off, put them back on nice and tight, no more squeak. yay

I'm one of the guys that told you that it was probably the hatch. Mine does it too, I've just been too lazy to re-adjust it.
Now that you've posted the how-to, I'll fix mine tomorrow...thanx for posting.

One of my latches will not latch? I tried adjusting it but it keeps moving, any ideas.

I thought I had a harch squeak for weeks, it was driving me insane. Nothin I seemed to do would help. Then I realized it was one of my mufflers squeaking off the heat shield :p:

I had a nasty squeak, but it was the passenger side rear shock mount. I replaced them with pillow ball mounts. Problem solved!

I have the squeak in the back of my 87 TII. Seems definitely to be coming from the rear shock towers. Rear hatch latches have been repositioned to make them tighter. Rear latch rods tied down with rubber cord to prevent rattling. All carpets and mats removed from rear, and wiring harnesses tied down to prevent rattling. It's pretty good now but the squeak is driving me apeshit!

I was wondering about that squeak makes my car sound like a freaken wagon on a dirt road lol.

Those 2 stock camber links(one on each trailing arm) make that noise also when they are worn out.
