Fixed oil leak!!!.... well I thought I did

I was just wondering what the plate is that is directly behind the oil pan. I think it's part of the transmission or something I don't know. I was leaking oil really really bad and all signs led to the oil pan as the leak. Replaced the gasket and used gasket sealer as well. It was leaking in between the pan and that plate that I don't know what it is. Just kinda dribbling out of the space between there.

So could the oil be coming from that little plate? It's really frustrating when you spend all this time fixing something that maybe didn't need to be fixed. Oh well, at least I can expect the oil pan not to leak.

Thanks for your help.

that plate is a flywheel/clutch inspection plate, 1 of 3 plates

Inspection plate? Are they prone to leaking oil after time... because that is the only place where the oil is coming from.

if its coming from under the inspection plate its either you rear main seal or you rear stationary gear o-ring.

How bad is that? These are transmission seals your talking about? Or(please no) the rear main seal from the engine?

It sounds like the rear main seal (on the engine) to me. It requires dropping the transmission to fix. If could also be the rear stationary gear o-ring as mentioned, but I think that is less common, and you still have to drop the tranny to replace it.
Obviously wait to see if theres other possibilities, but it sounds like dropping the tranny is in your future.

Damn, that doesn't sound very good. I know these cars are old, but I've just had so many problems and there are still many things to do. :( Nothing seems to be positive. Well life has just handed me a raw piece of meat, and I guess I need to cook it if I want to eat it. Haha that was retarded... but humor is important. Thanks guys, I guess I'll be doing some reading up on this rear seal. Hopefully it's not too hard despite dropping the tranny.
