Fix for power locks?

Well I thougt about putting a car alarm in my 89' s5 TurboII. The install guy asked if I had power door locks. Which I do, but they don't work. At least not all the way. Seems when I open with the key the pass side lifts just barely from the locked position. Anybody ever have this problem? If so how did you fix it? Where should I start?

Im glad you asked this question, cause i was just going to post the same thing today. sometimes my pass. side dosnt go up all the way, and i have to use a combo of helping as well as using my lock to make it go all the way up. other times it goes all the way up with no problems.

The problem is usually the driver's door lock switch position sensor.

It's an easy fix:
Remove the inside door handle cover (one screw).
Spray some contact cleaner in the crack at the top of the lock switch & work it in.
Replace the cover.

My favorite contact cleaner is CRC "2-26". It's like WD-40 for contacts.
Home Depot has it in the electrical secion.
It's good for all kinds of switches, controls, contacts, & position sensors.
EG: TPS, radio pots, ignition switch, logicon buttons & sliders etc.

This shot is where I was fixing the ignition switch with it.

BTW: WD-40 residue is an insulator.

I used to have the same problem also, I took my door apart and cleaned off the connector with some steel wool, I imaging electrical contact cleaner would have worked better though. it fixed it pretty easily.

On another note, to get a remote locking system for an rx-7, you have to install an electric lock motor on the driver side door, because our locks from the factory only have the power lock on the passanger side.
