First time to have an RX-7 with back seat

Are these a bit more uncommon? It's the first I have had to part out with a back seat, 1988 model, was sorta surprised and didnt even notice at first because it was laid all the way down AND was covered over with junk and extra parts and blah blah. Anyway, what's the scoop on these?

DavidHolmesIII 12-03-07 01:37 AM

I own a 88 GXL, also 2+2, and have been told that although uncommon, it does not increase the value. They also told me that it was not favored ,which is the reason behind the rarity. However i like mine. I think they look better than the others even though they are generally useless. It also adds weight, minimal yes, but keep in mind its an NA, your obviously not in it for the racing.

RB_eater 12-03-07 01:50 AM

Yeah 2+2's weren't a very popular option from the factory but I wouldn't say they are rare.

FuStEr 12-03-07 01:51 AM

i had 2+2 on my 87 TII but part out the back seats and went rear bins with black interior =D, my friends TII also got it, but his seems more of a add on since it wasn't completely bolt on

aaah, so it's not exactly a desired trait then? Cant say I could argue much, it doesnt look remotely comfortable lol.

blwn rtr 89' 12-03-07 11:08 AM

when i bought my car, it had the 2+1.5 seat option, its severly uncomfortable, change pit, and would kill some one in a collision who is taller than 5ft, im about 6ft and i had to tilt my head al the way to the side to sit in it.

all that really makes it heavier over the comparment option is the seat belts, the seat it self weightes nothing.

my car also came with a steel n/a hood, which is unusal, and my jdm car came with an aluminum TII hood. mabey i remembered it backwards but im pretty shure its supposed to be the other way around?

micah 12-03-07 11:18 AM

^^ You have it backwards.. MOST TII hoods are alum.. MOST NA hoods are steel. Though, the opposite of both exist and are semi-uncommon.

intresting, some one offered me $200 for my alum TII hood, sence that guy was the one who told me that is that grounds to rip someone off, because of misinformation?

i guess its cuz his TII hood is steel.

Yeah.. NA people who got alum hoods were lucky. TII people who got steel hoods were unlucky.

200 bucks isn't bad for a TII hood in decent shape. They are a commodity of sorts because tons of NA people want them so they can be posers. :)

TII hood+akagi redsuns decal= 50rwhp gain

dident you get the memo???

micah 12-03-07 11:34 AM

Yeah, I've been looking for a set of rear leathers for awhile. Must say, hard to find, but not very many people like them. They'd only be in my garage for the novelty of having them. I've already sourced a glass sunroof, which I've been told is rare.

So I'm the only one who prefers the clean look of the NA hood?

FuStEr 12-03-07 07:11 PM

i have tii steel hood, damn thing is heavy. when i still had the back seats my friends would complain and a leg would block me from shifting. i tried sitting in one of those, not comfortable at all. its like a toddler's seat

Nope. I prefer it as well. If I were to get a turbo, I'd put an NA hood on it and go FMIC.

I shall take you up on that offer this coming summer, the cash just isn't coming in like it does in the summer. =( College FTL!

I've had 2 FC's with back seats. As a joke I tried fitting my 6' 3" frame into them. It wasn't going to happen. I can't even imagine a midget fitting back there, maybe a baby... I replaced the seats with the fiberglass bin thing.

CyberPitz 12-03-07 07:23 PM

Back seats? I thought they were called "Grocery Bag Holder" :\

I think that's what it was called when buying options.
