Firewall holes
 

I removed my AC evaporator (which contrary to most comments I've read was extremely easy to do, I only took out the glove compartment and the speaker panel) and I have a couple of quick questions. I am wondering if there are factory plugs to fill the three holes in the firewall, or will they be outrageously expensive at the dealer and should I get some generic ones at Auto-Zone instead. OR, anybody have them off a parts car? Do they go in from the engine side or do I have to wait to put the ductwork back in so I can plug them from the interior side. The temperature probe is only for the AC, right? I want to be sure removing it won't affect the regular heater parts.

While you are here answering this question, on my Vert, behind the dash, all the way to the right, in front of the blower motor, is that just another amp for the stereo? It has a label that is very faded, it looks like it says "PIONEER" on it but its hard to tell. I don't have a stereo anymore so I just wanted to be sure before I rip it out.

I'd say go with generic rubber plugs on those holes.

I am guessing there are no rubber plugs from mazda ....

If your car came with AC they removed teh metal that went over these holes...if you didnt have ac then...they never punched out the metal.

yeah, just take out the amp and plug the 2 amp plugs into eachother.

while were on the subject... I'm installing a custom wiring harness for my new ECU and had to take the ruber gromets that the wiring harness goes through on the firewall.. were can I get new ones? the ones I took out are ripped a little.

When I removed my stock harness on my T2 I took the gromment off...and trimmed the hat portion of it. Which left the part that slipped into the firewall. I just used that. The big ass bundle of wires sealed it right up.

Do I have to plug the two harnesses together, even if I don't have a stereo at all anymore? I would rather pull all the unecessary wiring out completely if it doesn't affect anything else but the stereo, as part of my anal-retentive weight reduction program.

Problem solved at home depot for $1.77!

What department at Home Depot did you find them? Gonna get some today and remove my evap.

I'm sure they did come with plugs from Mazda. A frind of mine has a 86 base and I saw plugs on the firewall.

Ronald, It's good that you solved your problem for $1.77. I've removed my AC and I haven't gotten around to the firewall just yet.
