Firehawk Rx7's?

Last night I was out with a number of Rx7 owners in the Atlanta Area...I purchased my TII in July and really didn't know the car's history. Apparently, the car I own used to be a compeditor in the "Firehawk" racing series in the Late-80's...I did notice a few things that were odd about my car (Plates for the rollcage, Modified Strut Towers, etc)..

Does anyone have any information on these cars?..I would kill to see some pictures or something...

I know the car finished 17th at the 88' 24 hours of Watkins Glen...

Thanks in advance...

If you work with Jim Downing he should know about it. You could also try e-mailing Racing Beat.

The Firehawk series was an IMSA sanctioned professional road racing series that was sponsored by Firestone. It was essentially a showroom stock category of racing. The cars were allowed very little modifications above and beyond safety features, like rollcages, window nets, fire extinguishers, etc. Some cars were allowed more modifications than others to compensate for lower competition potential.

I hope you got a good deal on it. Cars that come out of these types of series usually sell for much less than an identical car that was never raced. Unless you're buying a vintage car, or a full blown racer, racing history doesn't add to the value of a car, it subtracts.

The upside is it was probably very well maintained during its racing days.

Actually the car was rebuilt By MazCare and others after it's racing days...New motor from NY engine Exchange, Tranny Rebuilt, new wheel bearings and the such...Honestly, It's a great car...I never would have thought it was a race car unless Charlie told me..

Any I paid 3800 for it, So I am happy with the purchase :D

Thanks for the info...

Id rather have an ex race car (so long as it wasnt stripped) over a bagged on second gen, 'done up' by a 16 year old :(
