finally got it started but i have more problems..

K, tonight, I finally got my car to start. It's an s4 with an s5 13bt. After idling it for about 4-5 minutes i went to check on leaks and stuff like that. to my suprise, I found the exhaust housing for my turbo (it's off the s5) was glowing red hot. OUCH!! does anybody know a way to make my coolant or oil or something to run through that to make it normal? I was wondering.. on this type of swap, everybody says to change over EVERYTHING from the s4 to the s5 except the block itself. does this include turbo??

check your timing.

vicious525E 01-07-05 05:36 AM

did you use a write up or simply swap everything? i'll be doing the same thing once i get my s4 injectors cleaned and would rather know what i have to swap instead of replacing everything with s4 parts that all have 133,000 miles on them instead of 44,000 mile s5 parts. i planned on keeping the s5 turbo atleast, its more then common for people to swap these and i would do so if your having problems with your s4.

WannaSeeMyWankel 01-07-05 06:28 AM

i did the same swap and all you gotta do is swap the EFI parts, the sensors, and ecu and harness

Tigersgyle789 01-07-05 01:42 PM

i swapped everything over except, I kept the upper and lower intake manifolds, along with the s5 turbo. From what everybody is saying to me in this forum and in teamfc3s.org, my timing is off. So somehow, I gotta fix it. The guy that sold me the motor said something about retarding it 2 degrees. maybe that'll help

Tigersgyle789 01-07-05 08:19 PM

anybody know how to adjust my timing? i'm sorta stuck on that today, and it's freakin rainin cats, dogs and monkeys over here

Tigersgyle789 01-08-05 02:28 AM

help? please?

vicious525E 01-08-05 08:48 AM

use your crank angle sensor, the thing sticking out of the front cover that looks like a distributar (sp)

Tigersgyle789 01-08-05 01:12 PM

well i know how to do electrical timing, but doesn't doing the other timing have to deal with pulling the front engine cover off and messing with that chain? i'm not completely sure how to do that though.

Been working on too many piston engines, eh?

Set your timing with a timing light, to factory specs, per FSM.

The chain powers the oil pump, the dizzy is direct drive.

ya.. this is my first rotary. thanks, um.. which way is advace and which way is retarded?

Get the factory service manual. Links in the FAQ. If you are doing these kind of swaps, you should already have it.

to set timing on an rx7 is so simple

hook up a timing light to your trailing coil at idle, turn it on, flash it at the main pulley in the front. there should be a red or green mark (red is trailing, green is leading, or the other way around.) the line should mark up with the pointer above the very top of the pulley. Then switch to your leading coil, and check for the other mark. If they are off, move the cas until they are not. Youll see the mark move as you move the cas.
