Final verdict on Apex-i AFCs?

I have heard lots of people say that a V-AFC will not work on an rx7 but I have also heard lots of people say that it will, and does work on an rx7. My car is an 89 GTU and I just ordered a V-AFC thinking it would work fine. Do I need to send it back or sell it to someone because it will not work, or is it exactly the same as the S-AFC just also with a v-tec controller?

Thanks

Tom

why did you order a v-afc over an s-afc... there is nothing for it to control (unless maybe you got it to control your 6th port and vdi selnoids... but im preety sure they already come on at the best times), and i dont even know how you would wire that up

what where your reasons for getting the v-afc over the s-afc?

The V-AFC has been designed specifically to interface with Honda ECU's. It's V-TEC control fuction would not work with any other manufacturer's ECU. Send it back and get the S-AFC.

well i dont want to use the vtec option, but I found a V-AFC on ebay for $228 and all the S-AFCs I saw were upwards of $300. Will the V-AFC work at all on my car? I dont want to use the vtec actuation for anything.

it doesn' work as you can't select the AFM sensor. it only works with honda map sensors.

there are s-afc's on ebay for around 225 last i checked... you just probably found the version two ones... with the 12 bands of adjustment... the earlier ones (which i belive are the same as the v-afc without the vtec stuff) have 8 bands, and are much cheaper... like i said around 225 - 235

yes, it will not work. it is made for the specific honda/acura applications. i installed one in my friends del sol and it had very specific directions which would not translate to other makes of cars.

it worked on my car... but I would send it back and get a safc... I jus used a vafc becuase it was in my hands (used to have a honda). I have the sensor type set to in 5 out 5. I dunno if its something with the wiring but + is lean and - is rich. Sounds stupid I know.. and when I get the money I am gonna get a safc too.

There's been a few for sale brand new on this forum for under $300.

I am using it to run my car with TII injectors right now

I'm surprised that you can get any type of control of a vafc on a 7. Purely designated for Honda ecu's and all.. I'd be very untrusting of it if you did find some way to wire it up and use it.

the wiring is pretty much the same, with exception of vtec signal from what I can remember and I think an extra ground wire.... again... this is not a pernament solution for me, mostly due to lack of funds. and again I would go get a safc which is what I wanna do when I get a litto extra cash and sell the vafc. Also I would advise the guy who started this forum to get a safc, save yourself the trouble ^_^
