Well gang, it looks like my thread got archived so it is closed to new posts. But I thought you guys would love to see the car with the interior installed in order to settle your opinions of the bright yellow and light gray color combination. Here are some final pics. :)

I will update this thread when I get the chance to install the last two marker lights and bolt on the hood and bumper for a photo shoot. I hope you guys enjoyed my thead as much as I enjoyed sharing the painting process. Now everyone go out and paint your cars! :cool:

Very nice job. How much did you end up spending time and money wise?

I really do like the gray interior- my 88 is gray as well, but I have swapped the aging leather seats for black/gray ones out of a gtu, and made the carpet black. I plan to add black inserts to the doors to tie it all together- the black/gray combo really suits my black vert well- especially top down!

I must admit I am not generally a fan of yellow- but you may have a new convert.

Thanks. I spent about $500 on paint and a month of working a couple hours a night, plus about ten hours each weekend. But I stripped it down to the bare metal and that made much more work and money spent than necessary. I could have shaved $150-200 and a week off that estimate had I just scuffed up the OEM paint with liquid detergent and a scotch brite pad like the pro shops do.

You've inspired me to do mine.... I hope you know im going to kill you if I get in over my head :D

my friend has the same color on his S5 NA. I think its an OEM Ford Mustang paint. Looks really nice... you painted it yourself???..

Nice job. When I first bought my car I was planning on painting it that same yellow, but I painted my car alpine white instead.

88 you rock. heres a suggestion on the rear tails, and sidemarkers and such. take some left over clear, go to the paint store and ask for some black tint they use for tinting the paints. just about a quater of a quart. and mix the black, clear and a little bit of medium-fast reducer. and spray a few coats on the entire tail light assembley. then wetsand it out. spray the first 2ish coats VERY lightley though :) they will turn out tinted, and the black trim part will be a very shiney black :) i can post some pictures of a vw i did this way, and it looks BAD ASS :) you can still see the lights light up perfectley too :)

looks damn good, so whats up with the engine situation?

I am about to rebuild and port the engine. I am raising money right now through sellling stuff and saving . . . but I will begin porting soon. The headlight cover just was not on the car when I took the sig pic. And thanks but I like my old style steering wheel. And yes, it is Ford OEM 01-03 mustang yellow, single stage enamel (no clearcoat).

As for the saga . . it will continue . . soon. Once everything short of the engine bay is finished, the real fun will begin.

That car looks awesome... now I just need to get mine out of primer and put the new grey interior in....

will the paint withstand chips w/o a clearcoat? keep the pics coming, as said before this is like tuning into a favorite tv show every week :) i think dark wheels would look great against the black paint and though I know you are budgeting some S5 tails would be a great addition!! u make us proud, keep it up!! as for the interior, i luv the gray also (my 88 has it hehe). it looks like you have only 1 rear bin though...odd. interior looks really clean...just gotta rip out that steering wheel. a momo monte carlo is CHEAP and looks great (they actually came on the InfiniIV in japan hehe).

A couple of questions: what color was it before? How about a pic of the engine compartment, was it hard scotch brighting the entire car?

No! I refuse to remove my OEM steering wheel. Well maybe I will change my mind later.

There is one bin because the car had no bins before, and I bought a spare bin frame from the junk yard to allow easy access to my relocated battery. The complete details are in the thread "Battery relocation : my story".

You don't need clearcoat to resist chips. My clearcoated 88 Integra had more chips in its OEM paint up front than the FC had with its basic enamel from the factory. It seems any paint will chip if rocks hit it hard enough, but the paint formula, thickness, level of cure and hardness of the surface under it seem to play a part in how many chips will show up after some driving.

Wheels . . . I have been eyeing the Rota grid in gunmetal . .

. . . 15x6.5 so I could still have light wheels (12lbs) but with the option of 215 or 225 - 50 series tires. But I am too broke to make any plans for wheels right now.

Complete details are in the archived thread "Pics of an FC paint job". I stripped it down to the bare metal, did an acid wipe, then an etching primer, then a surfacer / sealer, wet sanded with 600 grit for many, many hours, and finally coated with 5 coats of topcoat.

Looks great :bigthumb: As for the wheels situation, ever consider a set of 'vert wheels? Very light (11.5#) and 15x6.5 also. Thats what Im running on my FC and I love them...

i'd go with 16's...you can still find really light 16's cheap (especially since you have the 4 lug hubs). 225/50 meats are the way to go also :)

I have considered them many times. They are the best wheels I have seen for the FC in my opinion. However, to swap to a heavier five lug rotor and hub, plus heavier brake calipers would take away from the .5 pound weight savings of the vert wheels over some four lug Rotas. Although, the vert wheels do look better than just about anything else. But I like my four lugs ;) call me crazy. I would rather have low unsprung weight than 100-40 mph braking power. I can't afford any more speeding tickets!

Ah yes, I forgot about the 4-lug thing. Have you ever driven a 5-lug FC with the bigger brakes? I think that may change your mind a little ;) Im all about weight savings also, but thats one thing that I really want.

the 4 lug system is really not that bad...with healthy components, fresh fluid, quality pads and sticky tires the car stops pretty well! pad choice is key bc you want something that will take heat and resist fade yet not eat up rotors. hawk pads, new components, stainless lines and high temp fluid (blue racing i think) works well for me...many 100-50 mph stops w/o fade and still decent initial bite in cold weather (needs a couple stops at first hehe).
