A few Problems with my S5

Hello:)
i am driving a S5 for about 2-3 weeks. Naturally its not lack-free, so I have a few questions and hope for your assistance.

First to the transmission: The 5th gear is grinding while shifting.
The other gears shift acceptable, now and then they do not shift frictionless. I think its a problem with the synchros istn it? however I ask myself why the 5th gear sometimes going clean, but the most time giving me this painfull sound while shifting :(

If I drive in city traffic (1st-2nd gear) and take my foot of the accelerator fast, thus it "pushes" roughly off. its hard to explain.... If i hit the accelerator and take my foot of the acc. fast again, practically provoke a jerking, it extremely roughly throws you proper forward and again back into the seat. in addition there are diverse noises which seem to come from the transmission, like clunking etc. (perhaps also the engine). what could it be? Bad or worn out mounts at the engineTransmission? Could it also be, that too little transmission oil is present? (running dry)

The engine runs very smooth, i changed the oil directly after purchasing the car, and filled some Mobil S 10w40 into the engine. the performance seems to be nice, without power loss or something similar up to the redline. However if i take a little bit use of the engine brake, like holding the level between acceleration and decceleration, there is a kind of "stutter firing" it sounds like a piston engine with broken spark plug wires.

As small question besides:
On American sites such as FC3Spro.com, it is said that all warning lamps of the warning cluster should light up if tunrning on the ignition. In the case of ignition however only the ABS light it turning on. if the emergency brake is tightened, the doors open, then these things are also indicated, otherwise however nothing.
Is it broken? Or are there some differences between usdm and edm/jdm warningclusters etc.?
oh and.. the windows water warning is continuously on, doesnt matter how much water there is.

Mileage: 123000 km according to km counter.

I am very grateful for each assistance :)

oh, and sorry for the bad grammatics :(

sounds like it could be a worn mount or 2 on the tranny if it makes clunking noises, and also you should change the tranny fluid and rear differential fluid ASAP just since you don't know when it was done last. For all we know the gearlube is 100,000 + km's and desperatly needs changing. Start with the fluid change and get the car in the air and support itt with stands for safety and try moving the tranny around some. It could also be worn or broken rear differential mounts but is prolly not.

Start with basics first... do a lot of reading and searching on here, and start with the sticky FAQ at the top of the 2nd gen forum for quick reference help.

For gearlube fluid I would use royal purple, since a lot of people use it with great success, or do a search and find out what other options there are and go with what you think is best.

thanks,

somebody told me it could be the differential too, have to check this..
sadly we have no royal purple over here :( so i have to find something other.. how about castrol x or something?

and how about

"However if i take a little bit use of the engine brake, like holding the level between acceleration and decceleration, there is a kind of "stutter firing" it sounds like a piston engine with broken spark plug wires." ?

could it be a prob with the throttle valve? think heard something like that..

Start with a 60K tune up... do a FAQ search and do all the fluids and the spark plugs and wires. see how much that fixes. Neglect can be a BAD BAD thing in these cars.

I know since I have yet to drive mine and I have owned it for 2 years and dropped 10k into it (including car and rebuilt engine) and I am still finding things wrong with it as I put it back together. But luckily I am almost done on exterior and in 1 week the motor goes in and 2-3 weeks after that she will be fired up for the first time since I bought her.

mmm I can't wait to hear my 7 roar!!!
