Fd u & lim > fc?

What is needed to put an FD Upper- and lower-intake manifold on an FC?

Even if not the lower (since that would make the most sense to be able to run the upper), what do I need to use the upper and where can/ do I get it?

I've looked quite abit for the infamous 'spacer' that's required to run the UIM, but to no avail.

Anyone help out, here?

K-Tune 03-25-11 01:38 AM

Please search. Please.

canonize-ryda 03-25-11 08:05 AM

yea i wanna do a s5 upper intake mani swap on my s4.
they say it can be done with little modification.
and theyve showed me dyno results showing the better flow of the plenum

Syritis 03-25-11 05:37 PM

on NA cars it's worth it. not on turbo cars.
but this topic is been beat to death, search it.

joeylyrech 03-25-11 05:54 PM

You cant use a FD upper on a S5 or S4 NA well you can if you do ghetto mod a S5 turbo lower but then you are gonna loose power not gain any, why?the NA intake system is whole different world compare to a turbo intake system were the air is just jam into the intake track and there is no restrictions. On the NA everything is designed in a way that if one of the components is changed it will affect the whole system more than a turbo aplication,Lets say that you bolt on to a stock NA motor a FD upper, turbo lower, throttle body and elbow,in order to do that you have to get rid of six ports(killing low end torque)and then on top you have a way bigger throttle and intake system without a dinamic chamber(air velocity will go to the crapper and loose torque)so for a NA motor is just not worth it,on a turbo motor is whole different story.

Picture of a S5 turbo lower with FD upper without spacer. Please people use the search button, there is a 10 plus page on this subject were nygreenbud covers the whole swap in details

i guess i should have been more specific. i was intending that if you stay in your induction series. ie, upgrading a s4na to a s5na, or upgrading a s5turbo to an FD.

i wasn't aware that the FD UIM matched up to a S5t LIM. i learned something new today.

fc3s91 03-26-11 08:15 AM

The fd uim does not fit the s5 lim. You need a spacer ( which I make ) or have your fd uim weld and ported to fit the lim.

JWteknix 03-26-11 08:20 AM

^^ you dont need a spacer for the S5 LIM just the S4. As shown above with little modification to the FD upper it will fit on the S5 LIM, no need for spacer

right...:)

joeylyrech 03-26-11 01:16 PM

If you cant or dont have somebody that tig your better of buying the spacer.Dont expect to get crazy numbers out of this swap but you will feel that the powerband shifted and is now more linear and longer. This is on a bridgeported motor and 76mm turbo so i dont know how it will affect a streetported or stock motor.

Hm. Thanks, man.

Mines on a mid-level S.Port w/ a 72 so I may not actually notice when the boost kicks me in the teeth.

Still, with the longer runners and bigger throttle body you should feel a difference.I am removing selling my manifolds, throttle body combo and i am swapping a excessive third gen lower(custom, modified)cosmo upper with a 90mm throttle body in order to crank the boost up and see if i can reach my goal so if anybody wants pricing on this stuff shoot me a pm.

misterstyx69 03-26-11 06:09 PM

Step one:hit search forums
Step two: type in FD upper on an FC.
Step 3:enter under user name:mistersytyx69
Step 4: hit the Search button.
Step 5: be amazed at the power of the Search Function!!

Modifying it for fc? How reflanging it or changing the mounting holes?

Changing mounting holes(only one mounting hole wont match from the factory)fixing the ports location(center ports are on a different spot and angle)and then porting everything to get it like it was before(equal runners)upper cosmo manifold has to modified 2(port location and bolt pattern is a little off)but i am not worried cause is done by somebody that knows rotaries and this wont be his first time doing it.

Skinny: Adjust (banana) one flange hole, at a time and modify/ replace oil-filler for TB and 'elbow' clearance.

From what I've gathered, between reading and looking at my HW, the spacer is needed to clear the S5 Tii oil-filler neck, but also to transition the porting between the two IMs (S5 LIM > S6 UIM).

Not really a daunting task, given what's already done, on the car.

The biggest point is/ will be how much adjustment there needs to be made on the inside (centerline, middle) of the ports, to match.

I'll post pics, when I've got the time and at the shop.

I love how people say search.... and others just continue explaining so now we have yet ANOTHER thread on the matter.

TrboSpdAnt 03-30-11 02:07 PM

... Which is apparently needed, since there are SOOOO many search variables to find the needed info.

The one thing that I've noticed is how many time it's "easier" for people to say, "search," rather than just give the info being sought...

That's usually indicative that said responders don't know or have the answer and just feel like chiming in.

Notation for all: If a person asks a question, and you actually KNOW the answer, ANSWER it. That's what this forum is for, not a pissing contest of, "I know, but I'm not going to tell you," Jersey Shore watching, fist-pumping, chest-pounding, UFC wanna-be douche-baggery.

Yes, I know that's what the search function is for, but information sometimes comes faster from a knowledgeable person's brain, faster than the search function can accommodate. And if you DON'T directly know the answer, but know the link to where to find it? Post it. It won't kill some of you people, on here, to extend a couple of brain cells.

Thank you.

K-Tune 03-30-11 02:26 PM

Yeah..no. We aren't doing the footwork for someone who is too lazy or dumb to use the forum properly. Why should we go out of our way retyping something JUST FOR YOU?

Take your notation and flush it down the toilet. Crap like that makes this forum worse, not better. Now when someone DOES actually search they have to wade through all the noob fodder threads to find the real stuff.

Want someone to hold your hand? Post in here: https://www.rx7club.com/new-member-rx-7-technical-256/

You AREN'T welcome.

Cosmo_TT 03-30-11 05:12 PM

but sometimes people say search and when you search it comes up with stuff from 2-3 years ago or even longer and nothing new has come up cause nobody wants to answer the OP's original question because they think they look cool to just type in SEARCH!!!!
how do we know if someone has found a new way or a better way to do something in the past couple years or even months, stop being punks ya'll.......

exactly the search function needs updated, always giving me shit from the eighties

dwb87 03-30-11 09:01 PM

People just like the comfort and convenience of having someone reply back to them. If no one ever started asking questions, there wouldn't be a forum.

Ok,so it has now moved to #3 on the list when you Punch In FD UPPER ON AN FC.
here:https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ht=fd+upper+FC
I really don't mind helping out Guys on forum and providing info,But I can see the point of Guys just saying Search,,it has been Beaten to death,Resurrected, then Beaten again!!
So just hit the link, and I hope that helps.
Even the Thread I started( the one I gave you a link for) got all Bent out of proportion..and started being a Who sells better shit than Who Thread.
If you can get past the Crap on it,there is some good info,by Guys who have done it,some a little different than others.
But that eventually leads down to Good Info,as it shows that there is more than one way to skin a Cat..and that is supposed to be What the Forum is for..Right?
Cheers,.take pics if you decide to do the Mod..ok?.send me some!
Thanks.STYX!~

TrboSpdAnt 03-31-11 04:18 AM

Thanks for all of the actual VALID input, guys! (no sarcasm)

I certainly don't think that people should do all the footwork - by no means! But when a topic searched for and, as perfectly stated by 'Canonize,' shit pulls up from a kaBILLION years/ threads/ posts ago (when the more relevant information is buried well beneath the archaic), it becomes LESS than a help and more of a hindrance.

Secondarily, I already acquired the information I need, and it was even faster than wading though even THIS post. I found the people who HAVE it done and utilize a much, MUCH more EFFICIENT feature:

The PM function.

Misterstyx: Certainly there're a million ways to do the same, fundamental thing; that's why asking the question and seeking an answer (minus just a, "Search for it," response), is important. In the end my response to you is: Thank you, Agreed and I will.
