FD trans into FC?
 

i have come across a low mileage 3rd gen drivetrain that i could get for pretty cheap.. i was wondering if i could use the transmission in an FC as the title says (i'm mainly wondering about the trans mount locations)
i can get this drivetrain for pretty cheap, probably even cheaper than a turboII drivetrain, so i was just wondering if i could use this instead.

Tranneys are held up by the engine and rear axle(or drive shaft-rear axel) aren't they? If the trans. or entire drive train will "fit"(length and width, as well as trans-shaft, or shaft-differential), if the bolt holes don't line up to the bellhousing, take a cobalt or dimond tipped drill bit to it:).

uhhh... no. Trannies are held up by a crossmember under the middle of their casing.

You're probably better off asking any FD guys if they put a TII tranny in their cars; as I've never heard of a FC owner w/ an FD tranny.

dont FD's use pull type clutches while FC's use push engaging clutches?

Yes, but that can probably be transferred... who knows?

The main problem with this is the mount and setup of the clutch slave. The FD uses the above mentioned pull clutch. The only way to get around this would be to (try) and see if a t2 bellhousing would fit it. That, or run said pull type clutch and stock slave cyl. on your FC, with a turbo flywheel of the appropriate year (89-91 I assume in your case). I do NOT know if the bellhousing would swap or not.

The FD trans is basically a t2 tranny with different bellhousing and mounting points. Im sure it is internally stronger, but how much IM not sure.

You would have to fab up the rear mount, as the FD uses a power plant frame (PPF) that connects the trans to the rearend. It has no transmission crossmember whatsoever. Making one wouldnt be too hard, though, if you had spare metal and welding ability.

Im also not sure about the shifter/tailhousing length...never compared them.

13bt and 13brew have the same size flywheel and i've read that the holes line up, and i believe the trans bellhousings are swappable (i think)

this is too much trouble, i'll just use the NA trans til i blow it up. hopefully i can get away with 250 ft-lbs for a while.

I've seen a FD box modified so it can be used in a FC.
The mount for the slave cylinder has been modified so the FC slave cylinder can be used as there is no room to use the FD slave cylinder and what looked like a OS Giken clutch fork.
