fd tranny in an fc
how you doing out there in rotary land. I was recently offered a rebuilt fd tranny for fairly good price but im not sure if it will bolt in. i got an 88 t2 10ae. if anyone knows please help

It will bolt in, but you need to change to an FD clutch kit and clutch hydraulics.

the clutch on the car is going so i already need to cahnge that. about how much work is it to cahnge over to an fd clutch hydraulics

What about the driveshaft, diff. and the rest of the drivetrain? Is it the same?

You can probably get away with the stock clutch master cylinder on the FC, but you will definitely need the FD clutch flex hose and clutch slave cylinder. Any Mazda dealer can get those for you. The FD trans might have the stock clutch slave cylinder bolted onto it?
The stock FC trans mounts will not fit, as the trans mounts on the FD trans are different. I can't verify if the trans length is the same, as this might require a different / custom driveshaft to make everything mate up. -Ted |

They are basically the same thing with the exception of the different type of clutches.

US-spec Kouki FC turbo and FD are the same gearing.

Just throw a turbo II tranny in there, it's nothing to cut a driveshaft, did it earlier today on a 97 v8 s-10, had to cut out 3 inches. Or just take the extra money from not buying the fd trans and buy a whole TII drivetrain.

I say go for a TII unit. The FD unit isn't THAT much more potent, ya know? TII units have seen as much as 500hp before breaking down due to the power.

actually, aren't there FD guys that run some FC drivetrain parts (like LSD's)? Turbo II tranny's can hold a load of torque (which is the tranny killer).
