FD seats in an FC (searched)
 

I tried searching, but it gave me absolutely nothing of relevance. I know I saw a thread on this a few months ago (probably more than one), but I can't find it.

I found some nice FD seats for a good price and am wondering what I've gotta do to make them fit and work correctly in my TII. I'm assuming I weld them on to the original TII sliders or something. Any one have any suggestions, or has any one done this that can actually tell me what needs to happen? Thanks a lot.

All I can tell you buddy is yes they will fit, but with some modifications.
A friend of mine did it on his Turbo II, and man do they look nice in there.
They feel awesome as well. Let me ask him, and ill get back to you with some more info.
Im pretty sure he used the FD rails, and not the Turbo II rails. I will let you know.

You can modify the TII mounting bracket to accept the 3rd's rails. That's the best way to make it work.

I'm looking for the same thing...........I have an extra set of cloth FD seats (no rails) from my '93 VR base model (replaced with leather); and I just bought a '87 FC, with a bad driver seat. It had a cover on it. When I removed the cover, the driver seat left bolster was split all the way to the shoulder...........and, it didn't even match the passenger seat. When I asked about it, the guy I bought it from said that he had replaced the driver seat, because the original was wasted. So all I have now are some funky covers from Walmart.

there really isn't an explanation that is specific. Take the mounting hardware for the tii, and place it under the FD seats. Then take note of what needs to be modified to make that bracket fit. I've never done it, but I've heard of how to do it.

I have a buddy that did the swap. From what he says, it wasnt too bad. He made brackets to mount the FD seats to the FC rails. They sit higher than the FC seat so if your tall I wouldnt suggest doing it. He made his brackets on a CNC so they are near perfect and I will try and get a pic for you all. The quality of the bracket will determine weather your new FD seats will sit crooked or fit well.

Yeah............I think I might continue to explore the retro fitting of the FD to the FC..........since I already have the seats.

I just wish somebody could cough up the bracket mod.

they are actually really ghetto brackets but they worked and were pretty strong. i used the stock brackets and modifed the bottom of the seat so i could screw one seat rail hole into the seat and the rest i made out of these square peices of metal

Interesting thread, and I LOVE the R1 seats. I just bought one to replace my base model driver seat, but if I was rich I would have dropped $600 for a mint pair.

Let's see some more pics of FD seats in FC's please. :)

i have an idea i havent tried it out yet tho, i was thinking that u could mount lik some steel c bars to the rails horizontaly then mount anouther 2 to the seats verticaly, or other way around, and just drill holes into th c-bars to make them fit.

i dont know tho, just an idea.

I hate to do it, but I need to bump this thread, cuz I'm looking at replacing my seats with FD seats as well... does anyone else have a writeup about how to do this?

At least pictures of what you did to the bottom of the seat? Removing the stock seats in the FC is cake, as well as re-installing them. I might just go the simple route.

From the way the lines work in the FC vs. FD, it seems like the FD seats are designed to be a much curvier look than the FC has in the interior. Not sure how much I like it yet.

I have a TII and an FD

and I think I'd rather have TII seats in the FD than FD seats in the TII.

I do like the 4-point belt compatability though.

I've installed Focus seats in my Capri, APC seats in the FC, Summit racing seats in a Mustang, and finally Lincoln LS seats in the FC, and had to do it slightly different every time. The best, safest, easiest way to do it is to use the sliders for the car they're going in, and use a stout piece of angled aluminum to relocate the holes on the bottom of the seat in or out to mount to the factory sliders. For example, the APC and Summit seats were by far the easiest. I used a piece of angle iron between the rear bolt holes on the seat, drilled holes and bolted into place - piece of angle iron between the front bolt holes, drilled and bolted into place - Then laid the factory sliders for the car I was putting them in over it, marked the holes with a scribe, drilled and put into place. If the holes are too close together, you may have to make a ladder type frame for the seat - Like an H with two horizontal pieces, so that you can keep the lines straight and strong, and bolted together.

The weirdest one I did, but ended up being the best, was I figured out that the lower part of the Lincoln LS seat is exactly the same dimension as the lower part of the RX7 seat, if you cut out some of the little framework pieces that makes the fabric stretch down to the floor. So I cut the fabric trim pieces off the LS seat, took the padding off the rx7 seat bottom and cut off the metal piece the side bolsters sit on, then drilled holes and bolted the frames together, and stretched the Lincoln LS fabric down over the whole thing. The back of the LS seats normally bolt to the 40 lb motor LS seat frame, not the seat bottom like the RX7, so I just cut them off with a die grinder, set it on the back of the seat to check for height and bolted them to the LS seat back.

Voila, 2 year old $125 charcoal leather seats, designed by Jaguar. :D
