FD front bumper

I was wondering would a FD front bumper bolt on a 86 base FC, casue i was told it would look badass. Have anyone done this, and if you have can you please post up some pics.

No. It's far from a direct bolt on. As I recall, the FD is wider then the FC by several inches.

I am looking into buying an FD replica Mazdaspeed GTC bumper and having my fiber glass guy replicate one or hack it up and rework it to make it fit right. will cost nearly $1000 but I can probably get more made for $600 each if they turn out well.

The FC2000 bumper resembles the FD slightly also.

What about the Knight Sports bumper?

SonicRaT 06-04-06 08:32 PM

It looks god awful when done even properly. You're going from a squared defined line body style to curves with no defined lines anywhere to be found, doesn't exactly look all too brilliant when matched to the rest of the car.

robtechfabrications 06-04-06 08:34 PM

yea i gotta agree with sonicrat on this...the fc is a boxy/angular car by design...putting a round bumper like that just doesnt mesh with the car...but hey to each their own...as long as its done clean and you like im fine with it

I saw an S5 bumper with 99spec FD driving lights molded into it where our FTP lenses are and it looked horrible.

80's car with a 90's car bumber= teh ugly!

yea i've seen that same pic of the blue FC...its the whole round on a box thing...contrast design aspects just dont work together

here you go.... niceeee...

rotorforce 06-04-06 09:29 PM

^ I honestly don't like the look of that.

NOPR 06-04-06 09:31 PM

its not an FD bumper either...

T2 FC3S 06-04-06 09:38 PM

Close enough................Ive never actually seen an original bumber on.

'87 turbo II 06-04-06 09:38 PM

part of the problem with the look of the blue car is that it also has a widebody kit, that plus the pointed driving lights makes the car look like an arrow, it's hardly a control variable. What I saw had FD driving lights on a stock S5 bumper and it looked wider and not nearly as bad as this but still bad(here is a small fronted illusion brought by the pointyness) I'd still think a full FD bumper would only make the FC look even worse.

snowball 06-04-06 09:40 PM

if your going to do it you would have to round some of the cars other lines IE fenders

robtechfabrications 06-04-06 09:44 PM

i concur...you would have to put in a lot of time and effort into rounding out the rest of the body...and even then its sketchy at best...but whatever floats ur boat

that might not look half bad if you keep the front bumper wider than the FC (which it is stock) and hackled some FD front and rear fenders and maybe door skins to go on the FCs body and it would look like an FD with FC tails, non-double buble roof, and different hatch and hood. They should make a conversion kit. I mean why not if the Veilside makes a kit that replaces all FD parts, why not a replace all FC part kit?

I guess what I really meant was to make a bumper that would fit the FC that had similar brake ducting and big IC opening and might incorporate the 99 turn signals.

robtechfabrications 06-04-06 10:48 PM

holy damn...thats an insane kit!! not my style though

snowball 06-04-06 10:51 PM

not a fan of that kit
1000th post

'87 turbo II 06-04-06 10:57 PM

I hate it too but I was showing that anyhting is possible (it's an $11,000 kit the Vielside Fortune kit, the one used in F&F3: Tokyo drift))

I dont know if this will help but i saw this in another thread. The fc looks to have a widebody w/ fd fenders, bumper, and hood.

doesn't quite work as well as I thought it would even with the front basically a whole FD. Also they need o take the headlights a tad lower when fully open and just aim the bulbs seperately. This helps though.
