FD to FC Pedal Swap
Can the gas, brake, and clutch pedals from an FD be directly installed into a FC? If not, can it be done with a little work? The rubber on my FC pedals is shot and I do not want after-maket "slip on" drilled look. I would prefer to have the real thing. Has anyone here made this work?

Aren't the FD's brake and clutch pedals cast integrally with the pedal arms? I suppose you could do some cutting and welding, but that seems like way too much work for that look.

i believe someone on teamfc3s.org makes BOLT IN pedals.

You can take the rubber covers off the brake and clutch pedals and then drill holes in them and even slightly counter sink the holes if you like. The brake and clutch pedals on the FC are aluminum.I also put some grip tape on mine to keep my feet from slipping around.I got a cheap pedal kit to get the gas from.It loooks pretty good.Maybe I can get the batteries charged on my digital camera and I'll take a picture of them.I don't know anything about the FD pedals but if they could be made to work that would be cool.

I like that my FD pedals are never slippery, I like the idea that there is no rubber on the pedals to wear down, and I like the drilled look. I have not had too many problems with the rubber pedals in the FC so far...
And right now I really do have too many projects working to think about getting down under the dash to remove/replace pedals for mostly astetic reasons. So, I guess I will just get replacement covers that appeal to me. The one reason I did not want "fake" drilled pedals crimped/bolted over the base metal is that I am the kind of person who cannot stand "fake" anything. Now it's off to the auto parts store to see what repacement rubber is available. Thanks for all the comments and suggestions. |
I belive mazdatrix sells replacement rubber pads for the pedals. They are the stock ones, and only cost a few bucks, might want to check that out....
*edit*-yep here they are http://www.mazdatrix.com/pictures/l-inter/l1-peds.jpg It's $8.71 for the gas pedal and $4.49 each for the brake and clutch. Heres the link http://www.mazdatrix.com/in-mats.htm |
wow! my pedals still have the tread pattern in them! My car is awesome:)

Here is a picture I took of my pedals. The grip tape is alittle dirty and starting to get worn as I have had this setup for about 3&1/2 years now except I just added the cover to the dead pedal two days ago to see how I like it and haven't added any tape yet.As for slipping I haven't had any problems with the grip tape on there. The gas is a cover but it is functional since it is wider it seems to make it easier to heel& toe on downshifts.
