FD end play spacer
 

Just about to put together my S5 4 port, and noticed in my box of parts from tear down the endplay spacer is a code "A" from a 13brew engine (7.975-7.995mm)

Front stack is in good shape, nothing eaten, just tore down for a cracked front apex, so is this an issue reusing this? The ID is the same but the OD is much larger?

I have a spare spacer from an FC code "V" (8.02mm) Should I just start with this one, check play, and order as needed? or if the "A" spacer puts me in spec can I use it?

use the standard k,v,x,y or z spacers and nothing from the FD stack
that A spacer will require larger torringtons and front balance weight and thrust plate specific for FD manuals

Thanks for the info! I'm away from the garage at the moment, but are you saying that it would work with larger torringtons and balance? Any notable difference's I can check to see if that is why it was in there, when I get back?

Is there any damage to be had to the front stack by having this spacer in there if it is an FC stack with FD spacer?

i would guess that there is a chance the front stack in this engine is using the larger torrington, thrust plate and balance weight from the FD
-- as this is the only combo that is going to work together
( if so there will be a match between that OD of the A spacer with the ID of the torrington ,, and the thrust plate diameter on the underside of the weight will also suit the torringtons OD )


if your other parts are stock FC,,
( the torringtons will match ID with the V spacer OD ,, and same for torrington OD to the thrust plate )
then use the V spacer provided and check the float
adjust it using the V's brothers,, x,z,y and k

Ah! Yes that is the case, the "A" spacer matches with the needle bearings and they match the thrust plate on the weight side as you said. And trying the "v" spacer its pretty obvious that's not going to work. So that's sorted out, much appreciated!

I just need to then make sure when setting end play to use a "A,B,C,D,E" Spacer from the FD and I'll be set.

mazda did the resize for the the different clutch arrangement on the s6 manual ,,
i wonder if you have the FD type clutch or conventional GM button cover of the early style
evidently the last builder saw the need ( or just lacked the necessary FC stack )

You mean they changed it for the pull type clutch?

I'm using the regular FC push setup though who knows why the previous builder did this. Lack of an FC stack or they intended to use it in a pull setup, hard to tell, came from Japan:dunno:
