FC3S Coilover options and ideas
 

I want a set of Coil Overs for road racing but i don't know which are good and which to steer clear of. my friend is extremely partial to Silk-Road coilovers but i feel he only wants them because they stuff your face full of their description and high pricing. Ideas???

????..what ever this Guy said???...anyhow,I wanted Coilovers,and the ones in my Pricerange(since I am on a Fixed income) was Megan.I got them and installed them earlier this year and I like them.Even though It makes the Car Ride Rough In Town(they wouldn't fix the Streets around here even If you Paid for it!..lazy Bastards!)..the Car handles extremely well on the Highway,and is Responsive as hell.It will go anywhere you point it,and you know where the Car IS at all times..anyhow,Enough of my Raving..,Get TEINS!..(haha!).

your best bet is the teins. i would recommend the super drifts over the flex because of the spring rate that it comes with. One of the best things about teins also is that your can get them revalved whenever you want with any valving that you want and unlike the cheaper coilovers (stance, Ksport, Megan, etc) they aren't limited to two spring rates. good luck with your choice.

As far as coil-overs go, you can't really have soft coil-overs and I'll state why.
If you go coil-overs, you're getting rid of your conventional setup for a much stiffer ride. As far as road-racing goes, you'll want anywhere from spring rates above 4k to about 9k max. If you want more, there are other suspension features you should look at first. Brand wise, Megans, TEINs, K-Sports, or pretty much any company with legit credibility. IMHO, I've seen Megan's and TEIN's perform up close and they're stiffer than steel. (Don't use a steel bar for suspension!)

I've heard bad things about K-Sports.

I've been on Tein Flex for over 6 months now. Not a bad gig. They are a little stiffer on some of the more crappy roads in NOVA--but on the highway, or when you want to turn I never had a better feeling. You'll want to get away with the softest set you can to increase your tire contact with the road. There's a few threads about that around here, I think even my impression of the Teins. Do a search and you should see the threads that pop up. Alot of them will be fore drifters that think the more stiff suspensino you get the better. I've only ever heard of some one running a super stiff suspension, and it was on a fully fledged race car (15+-20+ i think)

i've got the tein drift setup they're awsome my first real investment upgrade they hadle like a f'n G. can't say enough bout em little rough on the street (but what preformance setup isn't) other that that they're nice this might help also

silk roads are an excellent product quality wise, but the teins are better bang for your buck. also check out stance coilovers. i've driven funkspectrums car before AND after the install and they are an excellent product.

When you say road racing, do you mean IT, PS-2 or are you just looking to do a few HPDEs and autocrosses?

Also what features are you looking for mono-tube, single double quad adjustable, reservoir, etc?

What's your budget? What are you willing to pay?

Will the car be trailered or does it have to be driven to events?

Having worked for a major suspension company, these are some of the basic questions you need to ask yourself. Are there a lot of options? Yes. Knowing exactly what your looking for and what you can afford, will greatly increase your satisfaction with your choice in a suspension package.

Rebuildability and revalving services are also extremely important things to consider.

If you are looking at a dedicated track car, go over to the race sub-forum and do a search. There are quite a few threads on this. Be aware that true track setups are pretty much un-livable on the street.

megan racing is made in the same building as tein flex. so they are both made the same. and megan is cheaper.

ok so i really don't know much about specifics in coil overs but i like super stiff suspension. i don't at all care about ride quality if fact i'm actually uncomfortable the softer the ride. personally i like to know everything that is going on with the road my tires, the body, etc. i will be driving to road tracks. like i'm interested in as close to full on race as possible with still retaining the ability to drive to the track. emphasis on as close to full-on-race as possible...ideas?

I'd recommend Stance based on the research and reading I did over the past few months. They might be more $$ than the Teins but they are probably the best entry level coilover you can get your hands on.

The ISC set is definitely nice, and they certainly know their stuff. What's your budget? The Ground Control setup with Koni's is also an option. You can go KYB-AGX's if you are on a budget, but be sure to keep your spring rates under around 400# in the front.

Don't forget to factor in all the little extras you will need - camber plates in the front, adjustable camber link in the rear. Have you done the DTSS elimination?

I researched for a long time and ended up getting JIC FLT-TARs (which replaced the FLT-A2s). They're nice and they just updated them.

I have the TEIN Flex coilovers, and couldn't be happier, I'd be surprised to find a set better than these. Wouldn't trade em for JICs ever.... although I probably have a pretty biased opinion.
