are fc3s classified as family or sports cars?

????

supergoat 07-31-01 11:31 PM

a small, mid engined, RWD, 2 door car with powerful engine is usually considered a sports car by insurance companies. Where did you get family car from??

RxSeven1 07-31-01 11:49 PM

well i figured...there is a 2+2 fc...the 145hp isnt much and no turbo..im talking the n/a models

i wouldnt want a 2+2 anyway

beside how much is a fc/month? close to an fd premium?

supergoat 08-01-01 12:09 AM

Sure it only has 145HP, but its relative. that's 145HP from 1.3L. That makes it a powerful engine. I have a n/a FC 2 seater and my insurance classifies it as a sports car. I'm not sure about the 2+2 though.

For what it's worth I pay $800 a year to keep my baby insured. :)

Agent_D 08-01-01 12:34 AM

i pay 320 a year to keep my 86 and 87 babies insured :)

mazdaspeed7 08-01-01 12:38 AM

My car is classified as a 2 door sports coupe with my insurance. 2 door civics/integras are in the same class.

What if you have an N/A and convert it to TURBO do you have to tell the insurance company that your car is a turbo?..

Green 08-01-01 12:52 AM

Not sure why, but my N/A 86 Base is same as my stinking 4 cylinder TAURUS!!! haha I'm not complaining...

charger- 08-01-01 01:02 AM

My dads insurance company doesn't consider my '86 GXL 2+2 a sports car. lucky me :D there reasoning is, it has seating for more then 2, and less then 150hp. I'm not complaining though :) I'm not sure what its categorized as though.

BTW, being 16, my car costs me a little over $100 a month, canadian.

Sebring7 08-01-01 01:08 AM

My FC is a 2+2. I usually kick the shit out of the typical hondas in it too. Of course it's a sports car foo.

I certainly wouldn't tell my insurance company. Whatever the VIN# comes up as is what the insurance company will go with.

Yeah the insurance stuff can get pretty silly at times.
My convertible when it was stock did 0-60 in the high 8 second range. My wife's 93 Maxima SE 5sp goes 0-60 in the very low 7's. Our insurance agent told us if I got rid of MY car our rates would go down 10%. MY car!? It's slower, brakes better, and corners better, yet it's a higher risk?

Those bean counting actuarialists must be drinking some funny coffee :p.

Progressive classified my TII as a plain RX-7. The VIN # does show up on lemoncheck.com on the turbo model.

I'm paying $400/yr with partial full coverage (aka if it's stolen I get money - if I beak it I pay to fix it).

I may up that when I finish the restoration to $9500 worth of coverage just to be safe.

It is funny but it has logic. They take into cosideration WHO is going to buy a car and what are they going to do with it. Unfortunately for us, many RX-7 owners get caught going fast and being reckless etc. Not that any of us would do those things :)

Nice choice with the maxima. My wifes '87 SE 5spd maxima sets right next to My RX-7 in the garage.

USAA conciders the NA's compacts same as hondas and the T2 as a sports car. And Im paying $205/yr for liability, but that will change after a new engine and paint and stereo and turbo and .... and I will let them think its still stock :D unless they ask to look at the car.

Scott 89t2 08-01-01 01:01 PM

here in BC canada with ICBC (only one insurance company here and everyone has to use it) there are 14 classes for cars. (the higer the class the more you pay) and my 89t2 is in # 12 of 14.... I know an mr2 turbo is in #13. I have no idea about other cars.

ZachSpazz 08-01-01 02:25 PM

I pay about 900 a year on my 90 TII. Currently it's on plain liability, but I'm upgrading to semi-comprehensive.

It's funny...I pay 100 less a year than my 19 year old brother who drives a 93 Toyota Camry. I also have one more ticket than he does. It's a funny world!

FlyGuy2000 08-01-01 05:49 PM

i pay almost $460 a year for comprehensive ($1,000 deductible) for my 90 GTU at Travelers. then again it's a group rate so it's probably cheaper than normal. i believe Prudential, Progressive and Geico all quoted around $750-900 a year.

remember that's with the multi-car discount and my defensive drivers certificate.
