What's up with the knobs, rivets, attachment buttons, or what ever you want to call them things that the boot attaches to and rust?????

It seems that there isn't anything you can do to bring them back to a shinny metal or at least I have had no luck.

Question # 1 for you guys (the gurus) is have any of you had success bringing them back to shinny and if so what was your process?

I read a post years ago on the old Convertible RX-7 Page site where someone found a place where you could buy just the snaps for the boot. Several people at that time were buying just the snaps and putting the chrome snaps on the buttons even with the top up just for looks. I am kicking myself for not buying the snaps then because I have not been able to find them again anywhere.

Question #2 would be if anyone knows where these can be purchased, please let us all know. I have yet to see a vert that these are not rusted on and it looks horrible in my opinion.

Uhh, the snaps for the convertible boot were flat black originally I believe. Both my verts came with flatblack snaps.

Salvage would be your best bet. I think they're universal, so try jcwhitney.com mabey ?

Mine on my both my verts are silver. Well, kinda silver, with some rust. I think I'll get em chrome plated.

How about you take off the buttons, get rid of the rust, and paint them flat black? That will make them look better and protect them from rusting again.

Just take them to the nearest chrome plater and ask for triple nickel chrome......or Harley Chrome. 18 little pieces won't cost anything and you'll hve them back in a week. They do all the polishing so don't worry about the rust........just take them off an drive over to the chrome plater.

Actually it may be cheaper and quicker than buying new.

I tried painting the bottons on my 1990 vert and the second I tried putting the boot on again the paint chipped off. My 90 had silver snaps and so does my 91.

I think jhammons01 has the best idea. Now I just have to find a guy in my area that will chrome them for me.

Thanks to all of you for your 2 cents I am still open to other ideas as well.

If any of you have had them chromed, have you had any trouble with wear after use of the boot?

I repainted mine as well, and don't have a boot, so not a problem with wearing paint for me.

but otherwise the paint looks good
