Fc Vs 2k Z3 Roadster
 

MY GIRLFRIEND DRIVES A 2000 Z3 ROADSTER, I WAS WONDERING HOW FAST IS IT COMPARED TO MY 87 RX7 IN STOCK FORM, AND IF POSSIBLE DOES ANYONE KNOW THE HP FOR THE Z3 AND THE 1/4 MILE TIME STOCK.

It depends on which Z3 you are talking about, there are about 3 different ones. But just about all of them are faster than an 87 FC, doing the 1/4 in high 14s to low 15s.

On the same night that I lost to a Honda, I try to catch up with a Z3 (the one with dual exhaust). Anyways I guess he saw metrying to catch up..cause I never did, he maintain a +/- 10 cars lead. I don't know if he was racing or not, but I was!!

BTW I have a 91 NA

Depends on if its turbo or not and how well its running of course. If it is turbo and its stock on the best day with a perfect driver you could hang with one but not pull on one. A few mods will always help, or if its an NA, you'll need quite a few mods before thinking about beating one.

its a v6 2.8 z3 how much hp they produce and how fast is there top speed.

the 2.8 DOHC Inline 6 Z3 weighs about 2900, manual, wet w/o driver.

215 HP at 5900RPM
210 lb-Ft at 3500 RPM.

The speed limiter is at 128 MPH,

0-60 in 6

Sorry, even a 87 T2 isn't gonna keep up. Probably not even a stock 89-91 T2 (despite the 100lbs weight advantage of the T2).

yep, if you are stock, you are toast. If you do have a TII with at least a downpipe and catback (or equivalent) then you should be about the same power level and if the weight figures for the Z3 provided are accurate, an 87 TII would be 100lbs lighter as well.

So question is, what do you have done to your car and what model is it?

I own a '00 Z3 with 2.3 engine. It is definitely faster and has a better handling than any stock FCs. It has plenty of torque throughout the 5 gears. It is easy to get to 100MPH + even on a 5th gear. I love this car. I am not sure how it is compared to a TII though coz I've never driven one. I smoked a stock 300ZX on this one before and a Mustang GT as well. I dunno about THAT statement... should be pretty close to the 89-91 TII stock. Also, a TII with a decent set of tires and an alignment is good for 1.06 on the skidpad. Are you SURE about what you were saying?

Either way, it SHOULD be better... it's 10 years newer... but it isn't THAT much better.

Your speedo is off a little at 115+... if you take your engine speed (RPM) at 50 and calculate it out to 140 you'll see what I mean.

Formula= X / 2.8 = RPM of the motor in highest gear at 50 mph

X is the RPM at 140 MPH

Shit the last one I raced I smoked. I guess it really wasn't a fair race though.

No, I haven't upgraded my chip but willd o so in a month. It just came out a month ago for my car. Also, can you explain what that formula is all about. I don't seem to get it.

Yeah, I think for 2.3 Z3, it would be a pretty close match with 89-91 TII, but not with the newer 3.0. But like I said, I still love my 88 NA eventhough it's a bit slower than my bimmer.

Formula is pretty straight forward:

According to the picture it appears you are doing about 5800 RPM at 140 MPH. If we divide 5800 by 2.8 we get almost 2100 RPM.

We get the 2.8 number from dividing 140 MPH by 50 MPH. If we divide the RPM by the same number at a given speed it should match to what the car says if the speedo is accurate.

Does your car drive at 2100 RPM in top gear at 50 MPH? Anything other than 2100 at 50MPH indicates that your speedo is not acurate. Say for example your tach was at 2300 at 50 MPH, that would indicate that 140 MPH would really be 6440 RPM.

well in my 97 subaru outback sport 2.2L 130 hp... i was barely beat by what was obviously the slow one... only about a car length, but it wasn't a full 1/4 it was just stoplight-stoplight... but it wasn't much faster than me.... but iduno about the i6...

I work down here at ZF Lemforder where we make the suspension and brakes for the Z3(we're about 5 miles away from the BMW plant where they make the Z3 and the X5). But thats beside the point. There have been like 5 or 6 engine options on the Z3's thru the years. There was an inline 4 model, which was 2.0 or 2.3 liters, and SLOW. 2.3, 2.5, 2.8, 3.0 and M(3.2) I think were all of them... I took on a 3.0 in my RX-7 and was just BARELY pulling on him. Then again, I do have just as much HP and an M Roadster...(3" Racing Beat exhaust). My car dyno'd at 184 RWHP, the M Roadster that somebody owns that came down with us clocked in 186 RWHP...VERY close.
