YearsOfDecay 02-18-04 10:43 PM

that made no sense to me, can u rephrase that plz?

excitingleopard 02-18-04 11:31 PM

We don't all have the resources to go out and buy an SUV for covenience. Sometimes it's just necessity.

Although I really don't want to put a bike rack on my seven, I'm going to have to think up something for this year's bike races.

]v[akaveli 02-18-04 11:45 PM

i feel ya, my 88 GTU is my daily driver and i will need to take my bike with me on some occasions. I asked on this forum expecting someone who had the same thing in mind as me (to not fuck up my 7 by using a bike rack that will possibly break the spoiler)

sEeMiNhThEdEmOn 02-19-04 12:05 AM

i'd be interested in a removable rack, i want something to hold my snowboard.

At my local shop I picked up just a basic rack from a company called "Hollywood Racks". Holds two bikes, my BMX and my mountain bike just fine. I can snap some pictures if that would help.

Best as far as I'm concerned, is a hitch mounted rack. The hitch can also be used for towing small tire\toolkit trailer for autocrossing, small pop-up camper, U-haul trailer to college, etc. I don't like the roof or hatch mounted racks, not secure, hard to get bike loaded, bad aero drag....

I got my hitch from U-haul back in 1999. Also check places like... http://www.hitch-web.com

The hitches I found for the FC were all Class 1, which means they will be ball mount tongues, not receiver type hitches. This limits the variety of racks to choose from.

The only 'quality' rack I could find for a ball mount was the Thule..http://www.thuleracks.com/ The model is
948 - Ball Mount / Draw Bar Bike Carrier

The cost is not cheap, but then, neither is my bike.

For snow boards and snow skis, I'd just put them inside!?

i'd like to see the pics barcode

right now i just put it inside, but it gets tough to fit 2 boards and all the gear and cooler inside, it'd be nice to have a rack, but i can live without one.

I was afraid of what a google search of "hollywood racks" might turn up. But here you go:

Yakima makes some towers for the FC. I had a rack from them on my FB and it worked well.

Note: these are the type that mount on your roof.

Yeah, I kind of feel that way on this subject. My FD came with a bike rack when I bought it...what the hell is that all about?

86gxlrx7 02-19-04 01:48 PM

some people after they get cars still wanna ride there bikes

Chimeron 02-19-04 01:57 PM

I went to wal-mart a while back and bought one like Ed88 showed. Works great, even at 90 mph :D If you only want to use it occasionally, just get a cheap one, but I'd make sure you find one that will hold your boards, not just a bike rack.

Digi7ech 02-19-04 02:03 PM

BAH! The Hollywood rack doesn't fit ours. That's the one wanted.
I don't want a damn trailer hitch style one.

BTW yes I love my Rex but I love my bike as well.
I've dropped over 2k in my bike. Also ever tried to fit a full suspension moutain bike in the back hatch? Not fun.

I was trying to find a rack that mounted to the hatch. If I can;t find one I'll probably Fab one up since I have the fork holder parts from my trucks 2x4 rack.

Try a recumbent with a fairing :D

SpeedFreak03 02-19-04 03:04 PM

Well i used to just pop the wheels off my bike when I had to transport it (my mountain bike had the quickrelease axles and brakes so it took like 20 seconds each wheel :D), but I now have a BMX instead which doesn't have quick release but its a lot smaller so it fits fine. Another reason to ride BMX :D!

Wankel7 02-19-04 11:30 PM

I did not buy a pre fitted hitch. The reason being I had to have a non removeable ball hanging out there. Not cool.

So I went to a custom place. They cut up a hitch and made it fit. They attached it to the tow hitchs. It works well for me.

http://pws.gamewood.net/~mb800/trailer.html

My hitch also does double duty for a race trailer. If you want to carry mounted race rubber to the autox.

Does that screen name describe how you think? Hitting on zero cylinders?

Nismo Convert86 02-20-04 12:08 AM

my bike fits nicely in my hatch, i just have to take the front tire off

bkapold@aol.com 02-22-04 03:51 PM

I just tear the bike down and it fits nicely in the hatch portion....Its a pain, but it works....

Cool to see some bikers out there... :) BTW: anyone with any BMX bikes or parts they want to ditch? Me and my son like to build them for fun.....thanks guys

Brad

Dang, must be a nice bike. I've got less than 4K in my vert.

]v[akaveli 02-22-04 10:37 PM

i got a road bike that i hear is pretty rare, it looks fast just standing still, would look badass being carried by a car that looks fast standing still (rx-7) ;)
