Fan shroud mishap...

Ok, so last night while racing my friend in his ZX3, I launched at like 3200rpm and heard a loud noise and a but of whining... it turned out that the brackets for the fan shroud broke off and it killed my stock fan... so, now I guess I am going to electric... what is a good fan to use?

I would say your motor mounts are shot as well... I think your motor twisted so far that the fan came into contact with the radiator shroud..

Better fix this problem first......

For an N/A the Flex-a-lite black magic 150 should do the job nicely..

for a Turbo.. I'd satep up to a 180 or go with vintage air's monster fan (3700 cfm)

Watever you get, make shure it pulles at LEAST 2700 CFM and that it has a shroud.

The stock fan from a late 90's v-8 Taurus, Lincoln, etc. work well also.. Some guys do the fiero fan but, fiero fans are getting pretty OLD as they sit in the junkyard.

hey the fans you said for turbo are you talking about the flex a lite's 180 fan that has Maximum Fan CFM of : 3300

My motor mounts still have some meat, but my transmission mount took a crap... I am planning on replacing all of them in two weeks though... but you are correct.

rotary ressurection sells some e-fans for 25.

Yeah... the 150 just isn't big enough to cool a turbo car IMO... the problem is that it only covers 2/3 of the radiator.. and that can be a serious flaw expecially if you have a front mount IC... (like Me ;) )

the 180 will cover the entire radiator and pulls 3300 CFM.. that should make a BIG difference in cooling efficiency. It MAY require a bit of modding to get it to fit under the top tube on the rad, but i dont think so.. but thats just a matter of cutting and fiberglassing a small part of the shroud.. if it comes to that!!!

You know, there is another thread on the same page asking the same question. AaronCake mentioned that GM e-fans are almost a direct fit at a fraction of the price of these other suggestions.

Take a look at the other thread.
