Fan is also a ginerator in my TII WHAT?
 

Ok this is whats up. I put a perma cool fan in my car about a month ago. It was instaled with a toggle switch no problems there. Nice and simple. Ok this is where it gets funny. I got tired of having to remember to turn on the switch so I wired it into the main relay (switched 12 volts) a black wire with a white stripe. (two prong conector) and it works. so what the hell is my problem right? When i shut the car off now its delayed in shuting down. the black wire with the white stripe is the wire that powers up the relay right? So is it posible that the fan is some how holding and, or making power to keep the relay open longer ,temperily. I can get the key out of the ignition befor it shuts down completly about 3 seconds or so.My tt is not and was not turned on. Its almost like it has to waite for the fan to wind down completly. Also is ther a beter switched 12 volt wire to jump into?

umm... maybe you are just hearing the fan spin down??...

are you using a relay? or just taping straight into it for power?? you are gona blow the fuse pretty soon if you are...

No its not the fan just spinning down. The car now takes 3 or so seconds to campltly shut down. key in my hand, car still running. Yes i am tapping straight into the black wire with the white stripe. switched power powering up main relay ,Right? what is the best way to instal my elec. fan so it comes on when i turn on the ignition switch with out causing voltage drop to anyting else in the car? this is on my 88 TII 10th ann.
Note:it worked good from the batery, through 20 amp fuse, trough toggle switch, to fan. Also I dont want to use a temp switch, if my car is running my fan should be on.

Ummmm... are you sure there isn't a turbo timer on there somewhere, that just isn't set?

I don't know about you running on problem, but I do know you need to rewire that fan imediately before you cause a fire! I fan draws a lot of current; you can't just tap ito any wire you line. Do you even have a fuse?
Wiring it to run all the time completely eliminates the advantage of an electric fan, because of the constant extra load on the alternator. A manual switch is a gauranteed engine killer, because one day you will forget to turn it on. It's human nature. Get a thermoswitch to operate the fan; they're not expensive. A rebuild is...

Yes i did run a inline fuse . I also picked up 4 relays just befor i got online. But,the only ? i have now, is it ok to tap into any switched power?( for the relay)If not what wire would be the best?

A relay draws very little current, so any wire with switched 12V is suitable. There are plenty in the engine bay, or you can go to the main relay in the left rear corner of the engine bay.

Find another source for the 12v power. My guess is somehow you are putting 12v power to the ignition system, and the wire that excites the alternator is getting power. If you can pull the plastic plug on the back of the alternator out, and the car stops doing this, that's your problem....

Note- you'll have to rev the car up to a few thousand rpm to excite the alternator to make power when this plug isn't hooked up, its like a 'one-wire' setup on a dragster, don't think its a problem, it'll go away when the plug is put back in...

I get it. It's a trick mod. The fan inertia - 3 second turbo timer.
