extend the steering wheel?
 

I have an 88 GXL and I'm 6'3". See the problem? Is there anyway to extend the steering wheel towards me about 2 inches? I could scoot my seat forward, but than I have zero leg room.

Interesting. You could get a machinest to make you a custom adaptor, otherwise I don't really know of a way...later:)

OR you can get one of those quick steering wheel release.. I saw one in an FC and it seemed to move the steering wheel towards the driver..good luck and i hope that helps..

I'm 6'5" and I have the same problem. It's an issue because we have to have the seat push and tilted all the way back. I have two potential solutions that I need to work on.
1. I purchased an aftermarket steering wheel. The wheel is held flush onto the hub adapter by 5 screws. If one was to get longer screws you could put a homemade spacer inbetweeen the wheel and the adapter. The other advantage of an aftermarket steering wheel is that it has a smaller diameter so you're hands reach further forward.
2. When I was at Rotary Revolution I sat in a FB endurance racer that had the seat bolted directly to the floor. When I first saw it I didn't think it would feel comfortable. After sitting in it I realized it was perfect for people like us. Essentially I need to look into removing the seat rails and putting holes through the floor. (properly reinforcing the holes, etc.) This would give us more head room and allow us to tilt the seat forward and bring us closer to the wheel.

I believe an FD wheel bolts on however its sticks farther out by 3 inches. I just installed the Enfini one in my aviator on a fc vert. Had to fab the pick-up for the horn, other than that its a hell of a lot better, and i can actually see the cruise control lever now.

This would be you best bet, it's a safe and ultimatly sturdy device (I hit mine with a hammer a few times. :p) Go to you local AutoZone they have 'em for real cheep and it brings the wheel forward about 2-2.5 inches depending upon the model.

They make real spacers for sparco and momo streering wheels.

I'm a 6'4" 340 Lb walrus and I dont have much of a problem with the steering wheel but that seat on the floor Idea has got me thinking since I'm forced to recline the seat further back than I like.

6ft4 high 100 lbs. no problems here. but almost too tall for my car...

Hm. This might help... I'm going to look into it as well. My seat position is determined for me. It's as far back as I can set it and still fully depress the clutch (6'0, 200 lbs). I'd prefer it farther back for long highway stuff, since my right knee hurts after a while, but I still have to be able to clutch.

Another inch or two on the steering wheel would really help, I can't have my leg "upright" because of the steering wheel. Knee steering is very easy though!

gxl's have adjustable wheel and you can adjust the tiltiness of the seat... either of those help at all?

You could fit the spacers into the stock wheel couldn't you? it'd look weird but it should connect the same way, no?

You know, we find it simple to diagnose about any engine problems... but a problem with the steering wheel HOLY HELL THATS ABOUT IMPOSSIBLE TO FIGURE OUT LoL...

You guys must have long legs and short arms... :)

It's funny, I'm 6'5 and have the same problem. I even made a thread about it in the Race Tech section, cause I have trouble heel/toeing since I can't turn my foot.

If I had wider feet, it wouldn't make a difference...:D

Nope, I have to have my seat flush to the floor and the wheel in it's highest postion in order to drive. Even then I have to crane my head in orer to see stop lights and put my head out the window.
