exhaustless...

for a race FC, if you wanted to go exhaustless, would it be better to let the exhaust come straight out of the turbo, or add a downpipe of some sort (be it aftermarket, or custom) to get the exhaust away from the engine? I dont have the car yet, so I dont know where the turbo exits... I ran a little math and the potential for damage (detonation) is much greater than the possible benefit if the turbo exits in front of the engine...

not sure of an answer on the first half of your question, but about the turbo exit. I'll explain from my experience. If you lay under the bell housing for the tranny and look to the front of the car, the turbine side is just to the passenger side of the car from the bell housing.

ok, how about this: if the car was going 60 mph, and the turbine housing was shooting out water, would the engine get all wet? thats a better way of phrasing it...

why exactly would the compressor housing be shooting water,

and with the placement of the turbo you would pretty much have to at the very least have a down pipe on,,syou you can get the hot exhaust gasses from nailing the fire wall strait on,,and an elbow to get it out from under the car would help too,,,rx7s tend to blow flames from the exhasust

I see where you're going sinfestboy, and lladnar's right about the downpipe and elbow and flames. I'm not too sure either why you're talking about the exhuast side of the turbo, but then saying the compressor is the part in question. In any case, the compressor is right around the same place as the turbine (naturally), and yes, it would get the bottom of the driver's side of the engine wet if it shot water.

thanks... now where can I get those? j/k, Im about to go looking :)
ok.... I dont know why in the world I wrot compressor, Im gonna edit that.... oh, I know why, because I'm re reading the :choosing your compressor" section of maximum boost.....
compressors on the brain :)

At full boost, a turbo would be discharging over 400cfm of 1200ºF exhaust gas straight at your firewall that's covered in pipes and wiring. Yeah, maybe a downpipe...

WTF?
