exhaust upgrade for 91 vert
What do you guys recommend for a 91 rx7 vert?
|
Read the sig and then go to www.mazdatrix.com
|
I just installed a Racing Beat Header with a Mazdatrix high flow cat on my 90 vert I left the stock mufflers for now and it sounds great.
The power gains are awesome and well worth the cost! If you can get by with out emissions control than just get the header and race pipe. I will be installing a Racing Beat cat back as money permits but a new clutch is going in first power is no good if you can’t get it to the wheels. |
sweet, thanks...anybody running the apex dual n1s on their verts?

will the dual n1s fit on a vert?

Go with a single Corksport. Right price and sounds great only downfall is that the tip will not polish up. After a few months gets a nice burnt color

if your looking for the biggest power gain, i would say go with an SDJ header, although 550$ they are engineered the right way and will provide a bigger gain than any other header, put in an RB pre silencer and stick on a set of N1 duals, it would sound amazing and have great power and good torque. althoguth expensive, if money isnt a concern go with the SDJ header :)

Originally posted by ilike2eatricers Is it possible that your cat was clogged so that the feeling of more power was magnified by the high flow cat or do you think it was mostly the header or a combination of both? The stock exhaust system is all about keeping the car quiet and keeping the air clean. The stock exhaust manifold does a great job of keeping the car quiet but the design does nothing to keep the spent gasses flowing to maximize HP. That is why I upgraded to a header to unlock the exhaust bottle neck. I had to install the high flow cat not to gain power but to be able to pass the yearly smog check. If I did not have to smog my car yearly I would have installed a presilience to free up the lost power of the cat. |
ok guys im an FD guy so i dont know much about the fc....does the header and presilencer remove the cats? On the FD, the downpipe and midpipe removes both cats so i'm assuming this is similar? I will most likely go with the dual n1s.

On the FD, the downpipe and midpipe removes both cats so i'm assuming this is sililar? I will most likely go with the dual n1s. Some headers replace the exhaust manifold and pre cat(s), Some headers with pre-silencers replace the manifold and all cats (including the main cat). And there are also downpipes for N/As that replace the pre-cats, and sometimes when used with a silencer replace all the cats. Basicly a header replaces the Manifold and at least the pre cat(s), while a down pipe replaces just the pre-cats. So it really depends on brand. The Mindtrain and Pacesetter headers bolt onto the intake side of the main cat (and replace the precat(s)), while the RB header replaces the pre cats, but is slightly longer and will not bolt onto the front of the stock cat, requiring either a pre-silencer or a custom cat, or custom mid pipe to bolt onto the cat back. |
If i'm planning on putting exhaust and headers on a 88 na, do I have to put the headers on first. or, should I try to do it all at once?
|
hey i got a question about that.. what if it were "true duals" i read that on here earlier.. and how does that work? is it one pipe for each hole out of the exhaust manifold? or how does it go?
|
As I understand it header coming from each rotor and then a presilencer from each end of the header leading to 2 uncollected straight through pipes ending with mufflers. Someone correct me if I am wrong.
|
does that have like a v8 look where there is two headers from each side? or are these both on one side and it is just two seperate pipes?
|
ive tried looking in the archives and im sorry if im buggin anyone but what is a good size for exhaust pipe for an NA rx7? i heard that for rotary's it is opposite then piston-driven cars, the bigger the pipe the better unless it exceeds like 3 or 3 and a half.... i want to know if it is true? Do ROtary's not like back pressure so you can get bigger pipe?
|
too much or too little back pressure is bad. On s4 models the 5th and 6th ports were operated by backpressure but on the s5 they are activated by the airpump. I think for an NA 2.5in is good and for a turbo 3in
|
cool thanks man
