Exhaust smells awful!!!!
 

I am still trying to get out all the kinks before I get my car emissions tested I already failed once and need to try again soon... the issue I am having is the car runs so incredibly rich... I have lowered the idle fuel screw all the way to lean... I have also adjusted the idle so its between like 700-900 and for some reason the car still runs incredibly rich and I am not sure why... any help would be appreciated

Did you adjust your TPS?

yes sir... adjusted it and that is perfect cant think of much else to do... if I cant get it to pass emissions I may have to sell it and I just put easily a few thousand dollars into body and wheels not to mention the motor doesnt have any more than 50k on it

if it smells aweful than its your catalyctic converters.. the smell of gas doesnt smell "awefull" so im assuming you mean it smells like shit, thats your cats. gut them or as in your case trying to pass emissions get new cats installed.

just installed a brand new cat... and it smelled worse before... i dont know if awful is the right word but you it smells pig rich like lots of gas... and I cant figure it out... If i cant get it to pass I may just sell the fuckin thing

is your air pump connected? if it is, do you know if it work? remove the air outlet hose when car is running and check how much air is being pumped out.

I have been having same problem but my car has been running at 250 deg F. I'm waiting for a new airpump to come in the mail. Anyone have any ideas, and I just bought a new cat from catco.

Is that your water temp? You may have an air bubble.

Pump an assload of air into your cats, make it llok good, pass, win.

well I know the air pump is connected but not sure if it is pumping or working... so I should disconnect the air pump hose to the cat and see if it is actually pumping out any air? if not then replace it and I should be good to go?

I flushed the system using the writeup on flushing your system and I still have the same problem. I bought a new thermo and it made my car overheat quicker, so I run without a thermo and it still runs very hot. I also replaced my water pump a few months ago.

Do you know it hot by touch or from the gauge reading? the front of the radiator is clean no blockages. what thermo did you get?

You know running without a thermostate is bad for your motor. IIRC running without one keeps the water from reaching the radiator, but I could be wrong.

I heard that without thermos the engine runs to cool. By touch and by a aftermarket guage. If I sit in traffic for to long I start to smell a burning smell and it hits over 240, I just drive short distances. I was gonna just rebuild but I would rather figure out what is wrong first, It's been eating away at me.
