Which exhaust setup w/true duals?

I am going to be purchasing the Racing Beat true dual race header for my 88 GTU N/A stock ported. <hat I need ur opinion on is whether to set it up with:

Just presilencers from racing beat?

Just mufflers from some brand as yet to be determined?

Or both presilencers and mufflers?

I live in Tampa FL so I dont have to worry about emissions tests(no cats = good). This is my daily driver but I drive her hard and would like to start autoXing her and I occasionally take her to the track with FAF racing members for a bit o drag racing. In other words, I would love to just run a header from the block and call it good but I really dont want to have other drivers covering their ears while driving next to me. I dont care to have conversations in the car and I don't car whether I can hear the radio or not. I want to have the most flow keeping it just barely bearable by others on the road.

A final consideration that I need advice on is what diameter stainless steel tubing to use after the 2 inch piped header? Should I keep it at 2 inches all the way back or should I find an adapter from somewhere that will open it up to 2.25-2.5 inches on each runner? And where should I flare it if I decide to go and megaphone this setup, before the presilencer, or after the presilencer, or a set distance from the header?

Sorry I keep badgering you guys on the board about this topic....but I want to do it the right way the first time and it isn't exactly pocket change I am dishing out here. Thank you guys so much for the advice!!

If you don't care what is sounds like don't get presilencers, just run road race headers out to two mufflers. And don't get rb mufflers either if you are going for max flow. RB mufflers are meant to reduce noise at the expense of horsepower.

Heres the deal..

You cannot get the road race header for your car cause of the 02 sensor..hole not being there..

Ok Part 2..

You can either spend over 100.
from RB for thier presilencer...

Or get this one I use call a Twister
about 40-45$ thats with tax..locally

Then I get Magna Flow pretty cheap.. like 80-85$ each..tax included..

I got them for about 5 diff cars..and 2 for a FC like 2 weeks ago..

We got the free flow one,no restriction ..but a little louder..BUT not an annoying loudness..
I can also get all your exhast ran back with/or with out a cat..contact me if you want to do soemthing...

I also ave hook up on rims..tires..exhast..exhast work..custom made clutches...

The clutch shop will make you a clutch to fit what you need it ..you want a 3000-3500 psi PP ?They can do it..

I got a price on a 4 puck ceramic clutch made $60-65$ the same one from ACT is like 110-120.$

anyways you should remeber me with the black/silver first gen..

Cant I make my own o2 sensor mount?

ponykiller 11-23-02 07:45 PM

yeah, just weld a bung onto it and screw in your O2 sensor and you will be good to go!

Sorry too be dumb.....but true dual. Does that mean a seperate pipe for each rotor? All the way back?

yes it does that is exactly what I meant. I have been told by all on the board here that with a stock ported motor it is best to go true dual exhaust all the way out the end of the pipes.....whereas in a collected system(y pipe) I would be creating turbulence where the two rotors empty their exhaust in to each other and thus creating backpressure that would slow me down along with bad tuning waves reverting their way back to my engine that would impede performance.

i have a older rb setup, dont know about any of the other ones, but, even with presilencers,my car is loud.only thing is,i bought my system used, and it came with older style rb turbo mufflers,i'm told the newer rb mufflere[n/a especially]are a lot quieter then the old ones.[by mazdatrix sales staff].but,my friend has a db meter,6' back, its about 90db at idle,95-97db at cruising and,i belive it peaked at 117db full throttle.his db meter might not be the best, but still,i have been told that 95db is legal, and sound volume doubles every 9db,so,you do the math.when i get some $$'s saved up.i might buy myself some new rb n/a mufflers...
also,if your looking for a "offroad" header,i have a extra one, exelent condition,$100,- shipped if your interested pm me.
david
ps:i recommend you use heavy gauge exhaust piping.mine's made out of the sections rb sells[forget what gauge,i think its almost as thick as the header].compared to my privious setup[bonezhigh flow cat/rp50mm catback],even thou my exhaust is way louder now,the interior noise is actually less then with the shitty thinwall rp catback i had before.
good luck

I was just going to find myself some 304 steel tubing from somewhere and I am still unsure about whether or not to run 2.25 or 2.5 inch diameter piping for my system.

seventhgear 11-23-02 11:33 PM

I SAT GET THE road race header that goes to a single outlet like levi's. ok u say the loudness will not get on ur nerves....? hehe wait till u get out the car after a long time of highway driving .... ur ears literally hurt! lol kinda suckz but i like it.... lol
