Exhaust leak tips
 

Ive a problem with noise from the midsection of my exhaust for awhile now. I have a RB header to Bonez hi flow cat, and RB catback - all 2.5".

I used the gaskets from Racing Beat, I lightly sanded the flanges for a cleaner seal, and still I can hear noise escaping from the midsection. I tighten the through bolts but made sure not to overtorque them. Ive heard this can ruin the gasket.

I was wondering if this is a common problem for anyone else? Ive considered running double exhaust gaskets but that seems like a hack job idea. Maybe my flanges are warped, who knows

What kind of noise? Just exhaust noise?

You could find something to make smoke with (firework punk stick?) .. and check for exhaust leaks that way.

Yeah just loud exhaust noise. Smoke might help identify where it's coming from, good idea.

I've also given thought that my engine mounts are probably worn out, and might be causing stress on the exhaust components if the engine is leaning back or something.

Try using Mazda gaskets.

Cancel.

Double your gaskets up.

Stick a road flare into the tail pipe.

I stumbled upon this guys suggestion and found it interesting. Basically fitting a SS pipe into the flange area to bridge the seal. Anyone else tried this? Coupled with a brand new copper gasket, seems like a bulletproof solution.
