Exhaust leak
Okay...since my rebuild, I have had a rather large exhaust leak. I had been putting it off, but I finally got a chance to determine exactly where it was coming from. My BRAND NEW gasket between the turbo manifold, and the block was completely gone on the rear rotor.
So, I put my old gasket on there from prior to the rebuild. It's still in good condition...I only used the new one because it came with the gasket kit. I start it up, and it's still loud.....quieter, but you can still hear the leak. I let the car warm up, then pulled it back in the shop. I try to tighten the manifold-block bolts down again, but they seem quite snug. I used a hammer and my 14mm wrench, and was able to get another 1/2 turn on both of the rear rotor bolts. I start the car up again....considerably quieter....but I can still hear some ticking. I'm afraid I'll break, strip, or stretch the bolt if I try to go any tighter. Is there any tips of what I can do to get this thing to stop leaking? Thanx. |
The ticking could be from the fuel injectors.

If the gasket was gone, then it wasn't tightened enough. The escaping hot gases destroy the gasket.

It's an exhaust leak....I can't seem to tighten the bolts enough. I guess I'll try and get a big ass cheater-bar in there or something. It's just that I didn't have this much problem when I changed from my s4 manifold to my s5 manifold....
Hopefully I don't break anything. |
