Exhaust Install Question
 

Exhaust fell off my 89 GTUs this evening, luckily I had a racing beat true dual header back system waiting to go on. Got the old exhaust off tonight, and got to looking at the new one. The old exhaust had a long pipe that went from a rubber tube on the back of the motor to the cat. New header has a very small tube leading out of it. It's late, probably not thinking straight to being with, but what the heck do I have to do to get this hooked up right? I know these tubes are for the 5/6th port deal. I don't care at the moment so much about what it does as just how to get it hooked up so I don't have problems with the car.... Thanks for bearing with me....

If you look at the tube that goes to the cat (the split air pipe) you will see a smaller rubber hose that goes to a small tube near the aux port actuators. You need to connect that metal tube to the tube on the header. Try to get actual rubber hose and not the silicon hose because that tends to melt if it hits the exhaust (ask me how I know...)

How do you know.... :) j/k , yeah if he has the road race exhuast it comes with the rubber hose...only reason i know this is becuase i just installed it on my se7en about 2 weeks ago...i still have one question tho , what about that big hose that was connected to the split air pipe...what do i do with that. i have it just kinda hanging at the moment havent noticed any problems driving but was curious...should i cap it or something??

Ok, so I'm looking at a totally different place to hook the new tube up to. That makes more sense. Now I've just got to figure out where that is.... haha! If anyone's got a picture or a schematic, that would be awesome!

Yes, I would love to know if I should cap off the old hose then also... guessing that would be a good idea, just to keep crud from getting in there. Also, I bought the exhaust used, so I didn't get the rubber hose... I'll bet I got some laying around though.

I believe I was told that the hose can just be left off. If you want you can cover up the hole, it cant hurt. You can get the hose at any auto parts store. Ill post up a pic of the place to hook it to in a sec.

damn, i just realized that you have an s5. Ignore all the stuff about the tube, it should be coming from somewhere else as the aux ports open from pressure from the air pump. I guess you can just plug that small tube for the header because it isn't needed for s5's.

Hahaha! all that and I didn't even need it in the first place... I started looking for that tube on my car and thought I had to be missing something. Sweet, I'm glad there's guys out there who know what they're talking about! Thanks for the help!
