Exhaust Configurations

Good Day To All,

Guys (and Gals), I need some input regarding exhaust setups/configurations. I have '90 na with 57k miles and no mod's as of yet (just got it in september) I wanna upgrade the exhaust system, but dont have the cash to include a cat-back. Therefore, my goal at this time is to attain a less restrictive cat and get rid of the pre-cats altogether. I am at the brink of purchasing the Bonez superflo system from rx7.com, but before i go ahead and placed the ordered, i wanted to get some feedback (in terms of leaks, power gains, and noise)from other who have some familiarity with this product, or better yet, maybe a less expensive alternative that renders the same results.

I have considered headers, but from what i can gather, headers are loud and not emissions legal:( .nevertheless, they are not out of the question after comparing the costs. I can also circumvent the whole emissions blockade but was wondering if its worth the hassle and the extra dough. Finally, is anyone running headers coupled with a free-flow cat, and if so, who manufactures the cat? and if not, what comes after the headers?

Any help/recommendations/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time and patience with this lenghty thread. Hope everyone has a safe and happy New Year!

I bought that Bonez high flow cat for my previous RX-7 and I thought it was too loud and noticed no increase in performance.

It looked to be pretty good quality (built well and very sturdy feeling), but if you are not looking for increase in noise I would be cautious of buying it.

I ended up putting my stock cats back on my car just because I couldn't stand the way it made it sound.

a header will generally give you the most increase. as long as you have the cat on i'm pretty sure you'll still pass emissions. (unless you have to remove the air pump for headers which i'm not aware of.

its not too loud at all. vosko has pacesetter header and stock catback on his 90 GTU...it sounds nice.

i'd go with the header... www.racingbeat.com has them or pacesetter has a site as well. i'm not sure what the address is for that or mindtrain... good luck man :)
