Exedy stage 1 clutch power limits?
i have an 88 t2 with a exedy stage 1 clutch. at what power levels will this clutch slip?
|
all the stock turbo can give and them some.
|
i dont have a stock turbo. i will be making between 400 and 500 hp
i guess what i am looking for is if somone has slipped this clutch on the dyno and what torque # did it slip at. |
No, go stage 3 - 6 pluck sprung. Stage 1 will burn right up if you like slipping the clutch. Also you would want to get a Kevlar clutch as they go back to there form after heating up.
Here's how I see it. Stage 1 - OEM quality Stage 2 - stage 1 Stage 3 - Good enough for me. Stage 4 or higher, you don't need on the streets. |
i dont plan on slipping the clutch on purpose. i am worried about it slipping on the dyno under load

Call Exedy and ask what their stage 1 clutch is rated for.

From a vendor site:
Exedy Stage 1 Organic Clutch Kit Mazda RX-7 1.3L 1986-1991 <table class="ProductInfoTable" cellpadding="1" cellspacing="1"><tbody><tr><td>Torque Capacity (ft/lbs)</td><td>237</td></tr> <tr><td>Clamp Load (lbs)</td><td>1895</td></tr> <tr><td>Disc O.D. (mm)</td><td>236</td></tr> <tr><td>Spline Teeth/Major Dia. (mm)</td><td>23T / 26.2</td></tr> <tr><td>Clutch Disc Material</td><td>Organic</td></tr> <tr><td>Number of Disc</td><td>Single</td></tr></tbody></table> That's pretty weak. The stock turbo can make more than 237 ft. lbs. at the flywheel pretty easily. Compare this to the basic ACT clutch's rating of 330 ft. lbs. or Spec's stage 1, which is also rated at 330 ft. lbs. |
well i made 414 hp and 340ish torque and it slips pretty bad. just orderd a act 6 puck with heavy duty pressure plate well see what that can do.
