Ever seen these plugs before?

I heard that these are the plugs that came stock with the FC from the factory. Anyone know anything else about them? I have 2 sets leading and trailing, brand new in the box.

carx7 12-08-03 05:06 PM

Nope never heard of them. :D

asherwood 12-08-03 05:21 PM

Where did you get them and are they cheaper to buy?

J-Rat 12-08-03 05:22 PM

Ask, and ye shall recieve.

I am going to talk out of my butt now.......

12A plugs?

James

J-Rat 12-08-03 05:26 PM

Got them on an EBAY bid a while ago. Always wondered if they were worth anything.

Last paragraph
Coil voltage was again raised in 1986 models. Gap jumped to .080" with
the first Mazda specified surface gap plugs, SD10A and SD11A. These
proved less than ideal for long term reliability. Other variations were
tried until Mazda and NGK settled on the currently recommended BUR type
pseudo surface gap plugs. Visit http://www.mazdatrix.com/ign-2.htm for
more.

Found this too

http://home.iprimus.com.au/bradr/engine.htm

Plugs and Leads - Get some new plugs and leads, don't use the ones that come with the engine just so you know they work...The standard plugs used in the turbo engine are NGK SD10A and SD11A they are bloody expensive about AUS$30 each, and from my experience don't work very well and they foul really easily, too cold maybe. Mazda stopped using them because the ceramic around the electrode cracked and fell apart into the combustion chamber, so not good, don't use them

J-Rat 12-08-03 05:35 PM

Yeah, I dont plan on installing them. I was just kinda wondering if they are rare, or worth anything as a collecter item.

Rpeck 12-08-03 05:35 PM

Just by appearance they look just like the Denso's I run.

Turbonut 12-08-03 05:37 PM

They were original equipment in my '88TII. Mazda (NGK) had a problem with the trailing plugs firing in the early designs. Mine would last maybe 200/300 miles and they would cease firing. They even got a set of the '89/'91 plugs (7&9) and had them shipped over here for me to try way before the '89's hit the market. They didn't work either, so Mazda bought the car back and that's how I got my '89TII with the redesigned houisings.

This is what cracks me up though ... you bought them just for shit's N giggles? :D

J-Rat 12-08-03 05:41 PM

Pretty much yea, they werent very expensive, and they make a nice display item. I had no intention of installing them, they were more of a "gee whiz" impulse buy. I have found out that they are the original plugs, discontinued a while ago. No longer available. Probably not worth a whole lot.

Rpeck 12-08-03 05:47 PM

You my friend are an E-bay junkie!

step away from the PC.

:p:

J-Rat 12-08-03 05:49 PM

Nah, I rarely ever buy anything from EBay. Just thought these plugs were cool, and a little bit of rotary history.

Cool story man!

they are not rare around here

shit I can go to my local mazda dealership and pay about 7.99 a plug and pick up a set

they are an easy find just a standard dealership item

Thaniel 12-11-03 12:04 PM

The ends look like the Autolite plugs I bought once. They didn't seem to work well and I've been using NGK factory spec ones ever since.

J-Rat 12-11-03 03:06 PM

FWIW, I doubt you can purchase the exact same plugs I have. Many places list the SD11A and the SD10A, but the part numbers just cross to the BUR9EQs and BUR7EQs.

They, look like the old 12A plugs you used to get from the dealer in the mid 80s.

The only thing that suggests that they are for the FC is the N333/ N334 number

jon88se 12-12-03 03:14 PM

They look like Densos...I got Densos last year sine my supplier was out of stock on NGK's for the 13B at the time I was doing my annual tune up...Denso's worked just fine, still have 'em in :)
