Enough Is Enough

That's it, I'm tired of problems popping up w/ my 7 all of the damn time!! How much should I expect to shell out for a complete check? I'm gonna take it to the local Mazda dealer and ask them to check the whole damn car! How much should this cost?!?!?

Mykl 11-17-01 03:41 AM

What's wrong with it?

Problems pop up with my car a lot too, I just fix them. :)

rico05 11-17-01 03:50 AM

Well, the rear end makes a clunk when I shift into 1st gear, my inside door handles are broke, I thought I fixed my TPS, but it will hold an idle at 8000, then will just drop to 200 when I sit at a stop light. Also, it's 4 a.m. and I'm just pissy!

rico05 11-17-01 03:51 AM

Oh yeah, check the post I put up "Weird Rattle" that is a problem as well...

Felix Wankel 11-17-01 04:11 AM

Do not, repeat DO NOT, repeating again DO NOT(!) take it to the dealer. Chances are it will leave in worse shape then when you dropped it off. Find an RX-7 shop to fix it.

I know how you feel, trust me, we've all been there. FC's are older cars, and as such, need a bit of massaging to bring back up to their prime again.

Heed Felix Wankels warning. Unless you know that the dealership is good with rotary engines, don't mess with them.

The rear end clunk is a broken differential mount, I think.

The inside door handles are just plastic pieces, surely they don't cost too much to replace and I know they aren't hard to remove.

Dude, I don't think there is such a thing as an FC that idles perfectly, so don't feel bad. After all the work and fiddling I've done with mine it's still not perfect, but it's acceptable, even if it is flakey from time to time. The only thing you can do is learn about the intake system on the car and go from there.

Felix Wankel 11-17-01 04:34 AM

One screw, and a clip hold each inside door handle on.

The diff mounts are a bit more complex, but not impossible. Can be done in a day with hand tools in the driveway.

About the idle, check the BAC valve too. It may help ya.

rico05 11-17-01 03:54 PM

What is the BAC? Also, what and where are the differential mounts? How do I fix them? Also, forgot one problem. When I accelerate in first gear, it comes off strong and then will fall on its face for a second, then continue to pull strong. Help!

Mine had the wandering idle too. Then the other day totally by accident I found a crack in a vacuum hose. Put in a new one and I'll be darned if it doesn't hold an idle now. Sweet. And easy.

rico05 11-17-01 04:02 PM

Where are the vaccuum hoses? I'm a dufus...

Ryde _Or_Die 11-17-01 04:23 PM

Ya I am getting real tired of all the problems as well. I think I might take mine to Maztech here, its the local 7 specialist. I hate to waste money but can't seem to figure out wtf is goin on.

Go to your dealer and ask them for a owner manual. Then study it and you'll know all about your car and how to fix it. buy a haynas manual not as good, but it works.

I think I know pretty much the basics, or most of what I could get out of a manual. How bout this, if you have a new battery, alternator & belts with no radio why would your battery go completely dead? I can't figure that out myself. Plus the overheating problem with a new thermostat, water pump, flushed radiator & checked it and its all warm equally. Checked the clutch fan. Hoses look good, no leaks. It kills me, can't figure out what else that could be causing these problems.:(

smityjr 11-17-01 11:52 PM

i cant say abt the dead battery but as far as it overheating u never mention anything abt the guage ur reading maybe its the problem thats overlooked...

hanman 11-17-01 11:53 PM

New battery doesn't mean anything. I have purchased many a new battery only to take it back two days later with a bad cell. New alternator, who knows? Just because it is new doesnt' mean it works. Do you have new battery cables? That would be a must. And I would add a second ground from the engine to the chassis. The rx's have lousy grounding. The overheating problem could be a serious engine problem though. Hate to say it. Are you loosing coolant? White smoke from the exhaust with a sweet smell?

Does it "fall on it's face" at ~3800 RPM? That's where the secondary injectors kick in... and the solution to the problem you describe is to improve the grounding of the ECU and some of the other grounds. Do a search on here for "3800 RPM Hesitation" or "ECU ground" and read up on what it is and how to fix it.
