engine wont stop overheating
 

i have a 1986 mazda rx7 gxl and it was overheating and my water pump started leaking. it was overheating before my water pump went out. so i replaced my water pump tonight and its still overheating. we also tested my clutch fan and u can stick ur finger in it and stop it. do u think thats why its over heating. it only overheats when u drive the piss out of it or let it idle for a while. it bubbles out the over flow tank too. do u think its my clutch fan or something in my motor? any help would be appriciated. oh yea it has a new thermostat in it too. and i have flushed it professionally. i have noooooooo clue whats wrong with it. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!! thanks ryan

check the thermostat

also what condition is your cooling system in?
plugged rad. plugged lines and so on

well we used a like 1/4 inch stick and it stopped it so we let it idle and then i stuck my finger in it

Yes, as far as my experience with other clutch fans on cars if its working properly then IF your car is warm/hot as you say then it should be spinning very fast. The whole clutch system is ment to engage the clutch when it has been heated up enough. If you are able to see fan blades spinning round at idle and there is not much resistance I would say a good safe bet is to replace that clutch fan.

My Starion's clutch fan was on its way out and I could stop it with a rag the blades were spinning so slow. From the looks of it the RX-7 clutch fan is no different. It should be spinning fast, not able to see the blades and you should be scared to get your fingers anywhere near it. ;)

well i have a mexican way (i dunno if its just mexicans..) but the way we used to do it in mexico was just rigg the fan to spin constantly. if you have no money, and dont mind screwin wit the fan you have. drill to wholes in through the fan at opposite ends, and stick to bolts through it. the only down side is the the fan will be spinning constantly, aside from that i think someone mentioned that you drop down about 3 or 4 hp. anyways. just a thought if your broke, we rigged my old monte carlo like that, and it makes the car sound mean and kinda makes it lean a bit when you rev it... (rambling again..) hah

check thermastat,hell take it out and see if it still overheats--if so,make sure radiator is not stopped up,If your overflow is boiling over your coolant seals might be going out causing the coolant to be shot back out of the motor--not good rebuild time.Mine was doing the same thing,threw some blue devil sealant in it--worked great for 2 months,now instead of overheating I am shooting coolant out of the exhaust--smells good at start up--I cant afford a rebuild right now.I just keep an eye on the temp gauge when mine gets almost to 1/4 on the temp--its time for coolant
