Ok, so the story goes, a little over a year ago, I got a 87 Base Model for free, because it was completely stripped. Interior was bare metal, nothing in the engine bay but a tranny. Im only 17 and have a job at Safeway. Not a lot of money there. So I started slowly with the interior cuz I had no money for engine. Got interior looking very beautiful lol. (Carpets are black, dash is gloss black) And finally got an engine about a week ago, after getting ripped off for one. It was kinda rusty and oily, but now, oh it looks good. Nice and shiny, looks just like a rebuild. Got it as only the core and started putting all my stuff on it. Hope to have the car running soon. I am so excited! My first 7! And it will be achieved through my own blood and sweat. Haha, ill get some pics up soon.

One question tho, kinda scares me. If the spark plugs are in, should I be able to turn the motor easily with my hands by turning the flywheel? The motor makes six chugging noises but I thought it shouldnt be so easy to turn with the plugs in?

plugs got nothing to do with it (we talking spark plugs right?)Its ok if it turns with medium effort.

I can turn mine with a small ratchet. The best thing to do is a compression test, but to get the engine turning fast enough, you will have to get it installed so you can turn it with the starter.

Actually you can check compression before installation.You just hook the tranny to the engine and hook up the starter and jump it with jumper cables.But don't forget to squirt some oil in the spark plug hole first.

well he just did a bench test right ...if you can turn the shaft with a ratchet and it make 6 consecutive (spelling) chugs then you have good compression. If not then an apex seal has gone bad. With this you can not tell the exact compression #'s like puting it in a car but it will tell you if you hav a good engine or not.
